In the long run probably not. I think one of Hillary Clinton's mistakes was that she didn't choose a person of color as her running mate. The Democratic ticket being as white as the Republican one isn't going to go over well with a lot of people. In Michigan and Wisconsin both gubernatorial candidates last year had black running mates. While I don't think they won for that specific reason I do think it probably helped turnout.

Past votes are going to be an issue in this primary and it's perfectly fair to evaluate what a candidate did previously. Biden shouldn't be exempt from criticism especially when it comes to things like this.

He skipped the convention for the same reasons why his campaign schedule is limited. He thinks he's already the nominee and that everyone else running is no threat to him whatsoever.
