Why are Republicans obsessed with Hunter Biden?

I think the better question is why Democrats and the media are so disinterested in Hunter Biden, when it's quite obvious that he's trafficked his family name and connections to the tune of millions of dollars. 

Unlike the Clinton scandals, the allegations surrounding Hunter Biden have been largely consistent for years, which suggests a certain level of there there.  We've never gotten a full accounting of Hunter's foreign business activity.

It's possible Hunter Biden has never done anything illegal (because the political elite in both parties is happy to keep this type of influence peddling and low-level corruption within the letter of the law) but he is sleazy, and that is something President Biden must be willing to tolerate.  And quite obviously so, given that Biden entered the Senate as a debtor and somehow used his public office to turn himself into a small-time millionaire.  For all of Trump's faults, you must at least admit he was independently wealthy well before getting involved in politics.  He didn't do it as a way to get rich in the same way Biden has.

Sounds like a good topic for a different thread. But why do you think Republicans are so obsessed with Hunter Biden - especially when they didn’t care about the Trump kids trading on influence for billions of dollars?

OP's framing suggests the GOP's level of interest in Hunter Biden is unwarranted, which is not an assumption I will concede.  Partisan hypocrisy sounds like a good topic for a different thread.
