So basically the only difference is Ford wins in 1976, if I remeber correctly 1976 has the highest African-American turnout until '08.
JFK (and Truman for that matter) won the black vote overwhelmingly and also (probably) won the Latino vote as well. I'm sure the black and Latino vote allowed JFK and Truman to win their elections.
In 1960, AA's were split 50-50 when it came to party affliation.
