I think it is very, very hard to overstate just how completely abandoned/repelled by the French state even 'model' North African 'immigrants' feel. From personal experience, it takes a job as a financial analyst at Moody's to merely feel 'disappointed' in Macron and vote Hidalgo instead. Most of the (aggressively secular) French Algerians and Tunisians I know didn't bother voting in the second round last year.

Just offering this as background as to why Macron-Darmanin's last round of blind repression is so nasty and should be appreciated that way.
