I know they make crappy products really cheaply in near slave like conditions and they love buying our debt, but did we have to give them the Olympics too?
Strangely enough, the US doesn't decide the location of the Olympics.

I knew Clinton and Gore were on China's dick, I was unaware Bush was too.  I wonder if McCain and Obama are checking out lip gloss in Beijing yet.
In comparison with most countries of list (excepting Cuba and Belarus) China has rather good  human rights.

I've got no objection to PRC bashing here.

The PRC may well have improved. Or everyone else in the new top 10 got worse.

It's not like Beijing is the first capital of a dodgy state to host the Olympics. Look at Moscow in 1980, or [name censored to avoid invoking Godwin's Law].

Mexico City in 1968 was also quite bad.

The demonstrations haven't been that peaceful.

So they deserve it?  It's somehow worse than the PRC?  Should all protests be peaceful?
Well, as they seem to be mainly targeting Han civillians, they are at least cowards.

It seems the protests are spreading out into regions inhabited with ethnic Tibetians outside Tibet itself.
