He's the Viking that made it to Newfoundland a few centuries before Columbus landed on Hispanola.  I voted no, because I dont care if he got here first.  Columbus is responsible for the first PERMANANT European colonlization of the Americas and for opening up the Americans to the rest of the world.

Since Columbus was a fascist who caused the deaths of million of Native Americans, this isn't a bad idea.

Actually I've seen evidence that he was actually Spanish, but concealed his identity by pretendng to be Italian.  But that's neither here nor there.
