Florida released 4 maps. Not a lot of major differences.

Calm down everyone, these are staff maps that will serve as a template for further drawing. Not actual proposals.

There is no way these would be released without the approval of actual legislators and probably even leadership. My guess is these maps were to set the tone that they would not be egregiously gerrymandering, in accordance with the state constitution, but that they'll make things better for the Republicans on the edges in upcoming drafts.

Interested to see the big differences between the Senate and the House.

Anyone else feel like the GOP will pull a last minute gotcha and like completely reconfigure Tampa? This still doesn’t make sense why they’d draw 3 Dem leaning seats unless they’re really cocky they can win all 3. There’s no real VRA or COI reason for this config, infact I’d argue it’s not great from either standpoint as it cracks minorities in Tampa, isnt based on any precedent, and isn’t really an incumbent thing since as the poster above pointed out you can make a Pinellas seat R-Leaning without touching any other R seats

This is the FL GOP, they ain’t stupid and I have a hard time seeing them just throw away 1-2 possible seats like that

One possibility is that it’s just a placeholder config for now; they drew giant rectangles because they weren’t sure what to do with Tampa yet and they plan on going through later and drawing a more favorable config

There seems to be a fundamental difference of opinion between the Florida Senate and the Florida House on what to do with redistricting. It will be interesting to see who wins out.

They aren't going to kill FL-05, a VRA district.

Florida Supreme Court won’t help DeSantis.

Anyone know what the BVAP is for 10?

Not good comparatively. One of two major disagreements between the chambers is that the Senate's analysis found the 10th protected, the House does not. This is cause the House wants to remove the White-Black marginal precincts in the west of the county and add in the central White ones, forcing Fl-07 northwards. Finding that it is performing is reverses the situation on the senate map.

Of course the only reason they are doing this is for Fl-07, the House okay'ed districts with similar compositions as performing on their legislative lines.

Is there a way to take the Senate's FL-10 and the House's FL-07 or is it an either or situation?
