It's what the title says! Where do the rest of you Atlasian's work and what do you do there?

I'm working at Northwestern Mutual in the call center. My position is Customer Service Representative I (meaning I'm at the lowest level).

Unlike Bushie's call center experiences we actually get trained a LOT. Basically it's a 10 month probationary period with on and off training for 14 months. So it's usually a month of training and then going back in for more training where at the end of the process (and then more on the job work and proficiency) we'll make it up to Tier 3.

I've been there since April 30 and everything has been going great, along with great pay. If everything keeps going well and I keep learning the new material like I have been I'll (as well as the whole training class) will get a promotion to Tier 2 starting in March.

University student.

Why do we have so many people working in call centers? I wasn't under the impression it was a particularly common job.

After getting trained up to Teir 3 and being with the company for 22 months it's rather easy to get another job within the company. I'm hoping to get into the HR department sometime around Feb-March of 2014. Plus our call center pays above market value in our area so that's another plus besides working for one of the best companies in the area you can work for.

Ahh? HR Department? As in Human Rights Department? Huh

Human Resources, the staffing/training/benefits/employee relations/etc department. Dealing with all the "bad" and not bad employees. Tongue

What is considered "great pay" for a call center?

Well I make $36,000 just starting out which is basically about $6,000 more then people I know who work in other call centers going on 4 years now. By March I will also be getting a merit pay increase based on the yearly review in January and a promotion to Tier 2 in February so that's  two more increases. On top of that the company gives out variable pay to all employees each year depending on how well they've done, and from people I know (my dad has worked here as well in a different job (non call center)) it's frequently about a month's paycheck or more. Can't get that this year though, you have to work there the whole year to get it.
