The flag is a symbol, it’s not a god. Literally speaking, it is nothing but a piece of fabric, and simply holding it up high and not letting it touch the ground means absolutely nothing at all.

Patriotism is expressed in real and meaningful ways, nothing to do with a flag or a song.

The right to free speech includes speech and actions you do not agree with. So while I think some actions in these protests are in poor taste, they players doing this have every right to not stand, salute, place their hand over their heart, etc. Mandatory patriotism is the opposite of what this country stands for and is akin more to forced patriotism in NK.

The NFL does not agree with you.  They have a rule requiring all players stand quietly on the sideline during the national anthem.

Of course they're pussies and won't enforce this (Mike Tomlin should  get a 6 figure fine).  But they fined a Steeler $12,500. last week for a "suggestive" sack dance.

Two-faced assholes.

There’s a rule that people shouldn’t use the flag on clothing, but of course conservatives are pussies and won’t bat an eye when they see people breaking that rule.

Side note: There’s also an unspoken rule that parading the flag of a band of traitors, or celebrating their generals, is not in any way shape or form patriotic, but in fact treasonous. But of course conservatives see it as their heritage, and act as though it’s even more patriotic than our nation’s actual flag.

Two-faced Benedict Arnold’s.

Anybody who voted for the clownish, ignorant and deranged President that is Donald Trump disrespected both the flag and the United States.

This is actually very true.

People will think that statement is just political, but it isn’t. This isn’t Republican vs. Democrat. What Trump and the views he ran on (and his actions throughout) represent is the complete antithesis of American patriotism. That it has been embraced by GOP voters is quite disturbing and even more so is their utter refusal to acknowledge this movement as anything other than the extreme height of being patriotic. I suspect underneath their blind devotion to the president, most of them realize it, and some may be brave enough to admit it at some point down the line. But right now they (including those of his followers on this forum) are all acting completely unpatriotic, and have been ever since Trump’s movement began to ramp up. It’s a new America, and it isn’t great, and it will only get worse if things keep going their way; under Trump we have ceased to be anything resembling what we’ve long claimed to be. We no longer have a strong moral compass. Our decency has disappeared. We are on the verge of a collapse, one that perhaps started well before Trump, but which has spiraled out of control because of him.
