I wonder if Councillor Josh Matlow or former MPP Dr. Eric Hoskins will be running.

The Liberals have already nominated some woman whose name escapes me so no dice on either of those people.

1.This probably would have been a more competitive riding in 2011 if it wasn't for the popularity of Carolyn Bennett (though I don't care for her.) Up to the 1980s this was a swing riding between the Liberals and the Progressive Conservatives. Although that's really kind of ancient history as in the 2022 provincial election, the P.Cs came a distant third in the riding.

2.I didn't know she had won the nomination, but I guess then the Liberal candidate is Leslie Church, Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland's chief of staff.

In addition to being a political staffer, Church does have her own profile though including a law degree (J.D) from the University of Toronto. Possibly most interesting for the Liberals and their battles with online companies is she was the head lobbyist for Google Canada for over 3 years from 2012-2015.

If she wins the election, it will continue that every byelection winner this Parliament with the exception of Charles Sousa has worked as a political staffer (including Conservative Jamil Jivani in Durham who was a special advisor to Premier Doug Ford for about 6 months.)

My understanding is that Carolyn Bennett merely said that she would not run in the next election not that she was resigning right now and causing a byelection

Carolyn Bennett stepping down as Liberal MP for Toronto-St. Paul's after 26 years

She now says she will be leaving her seat right away, rather than waiting for the next election to retire.

What kind of pay cut do you get going from Google Canada's head lobbyist to Chrystia Freeland's Chief of Staff?

Don't know. Don't forget Google Canada was never anything more than a backwater subsidiary.
