Honestly, Schatz is going to be much better Senator for Hawaii for one simple reason: seniority. Hawaii lost two longtime incumbents practically overnight. Schatz is younger than Hanabusa, therefore has longer prospective service ahead of him, plus time already served as an appointee.
Hanabusa is acting like a spoiled brat denied a candy. Sorry, but the Senate seat is not a family silver passed by inheritance.
If she's elected, she'd have electoral legitimacy and I won't complain. But running on the dead man's will is disgraceful.
No strong opinion either way, but voted FF because corpses should not be allowed to decide elections.
Because Governors should be allowed to decide elections?
Look, I'm not a fan of the executive appointments. I much prefer having a snap special election instead, like in Oregon or Wisconsin.
But Hawaii's law stipulated the Governor is required to name a temporary replacement. And it's better than passing the seat on the desired successor by sole will of the departing incumbent.
If you guys believe Hanabusa is going to be better Senator, I respect that, but stop pulling the dead guy. That is not an argument.
