Sorry guys, opposed.

There are reasons we have age restrictions on all of the things that are age restricted, including drinking, smoking, and pornography.  The main reason being to protect the children from vices they are not yet mature enough to handle.  Pornography can be harmful to the user.  It encourages the mind to view women, or men if that is your preference, as sexual objects rather than as human beings.  Pornography can also be highly addictive.  If you favor this bill, you must also be in favor of legalising any other potentially harmful, addictive vices for teenagers that are legal for adults.

Guess you hit my conservative side here  Smiley

I always knew you to be more reasonable then most of the Democratic posters. I agree with this premise. Not everything is appropriate for all ages, pornography is one of those things. If anything, legalizing it for this age groups leaves the impression that it is OK for them. These are minors, and they aren't responsible or mature enough. Plus, Fritz is completely correct in saying that this material objectifies women and can be seen as rather demeaning more so to women than to men.

It might do something to help kids from turning gay. That might be the only positive out of it.

I sincerely hope that comment was made in jest.

I urge the Senate to pass this bill. Anyone who opposes this is probably a hypocrite. We all looked at porn when we were under 18. And if you somehow managed to avoid it, then please understand that most teenagers do. Let's not be hypocrites here.

That doesn't make us hypocrites. I drink, I'm 18, and I support a 21 legal age.

Sorry dude but I think that does make you a hypocrit.  You support a restriction on others that you yourself don't subscribe to?

No. Others have the same access as me. They can make the choice to follow or not follow the law. It's there for a reason.

Theoretically, this could be non-hypocritical if he doesn't support following the law. Nonetheless, it's incredibly retarded.

Purchase is different from consumption. I would support a bill that allowed consumption, but not a bill that allows purchasing.

No, that makes you a hypocrite, unless you're reporting yourself to the police every time you drink.

No it doesn't. It simply makes me a lawbreaker.

Perhaps the government should fund therapy groups for porn addicts. Maybe even have some designed for minors. Just a thought.

I like that idea; not for minors, though.

I don't want to pay for their problem.

The fact that I looked at porn as a a teenager doesn't make me a hypocrite, either.  I also smoked and drank at that age, does it make me a hyopcrite not to advocate lowering the smoking and drinking age?

Yes it does.

No, it's not. This is prudery BS at it's worst.

Why are we to waste precious resources on it then?

I for one admit to looking at porn when I was a teenager, and I don't want the Senate telling me what I did was illegal. There was nothing wrong with what I did. I don't understand this mentality of hypocrisy and the denial of it afterwards. Hypocrisy is doing one thing and saying another. You admitted to looking at porn as a teenager, and now you say it's wrong. It's soooo easy to say that now. I wonder how 14 year old Fritz would think?

Shame on anyone who opposes this bill! Shame!

Yankee, now you are just being ridiculous. There is nothing wrong with having sex at age 14. I don't have any emotional problems or anything like that. There is no proof of these claims.

Oh yay for anecdotal evidence. Just 5 pages ago, anecdotal evidence wasn't the equal of statistical evidence. Now that it backs up your point its fine. Everybody is different, and I hate to break it to you but not everyone is like you. People respond differently to different situations and the reactions always vary.

You were the one supporting anecdotal evidence.

Like I said, I don't necessarily agree with the premise of this bill.

Maybe more people should be like me. Tongue
