I would hope the example of Russia in Ukraine would dissuade them from this

They also might learn from Putin's military mistakes and do a better job.

Also looking at how well guided missiles and remote control bombers do, they might copy America's tactics.

But a centralized imperial dictatorship is looking like a big drag on China, just like it's a drag on Russia.
