What's the big deal here? Some bitch complained about kids selling lemonade, the cops told them to stop, one of the cops (who is nonetheless apparently scum) did some research and found out the kids could sell lemonade, now they're allowed to sell lemonade again. The outrage?

Yes, I am outraged that we live in an expanding police state where even children selling lemonade on the sidewalk have been made targets of the boys in blue.

You know, what's fun?  If we had a Republican President and Congress, the responses in this thread would be completely inverse--despite the fact that the direction of the federal government would have no effect on the actions of some sleazy local yokel smalltown cop in Haverford Township, PA.

Some of the responses would be inverse, yes. Why is that fun though?

Did you read the article? They were the target of a neighbor who called in the cops. The cops were just doing their jobs and (if you actually read the article) took the extra step of finding a way to get the kids back in business.
LOL, you people will go to any length to defend the fuzz, won't you? It's cops' jobs to shut down lemonade stands now?

Oh, but thank you officer for trying to save your own ass after discovering you had already overstepped your boundaries and enforced a non-existent law against some 5-year-olds. What a tough guy.

They were responding to a call.

If you heard screams next door, called the police and claimed somebody was being attacked, and they showed up at your neighbor's house only to find it was the kids playing inside, would the police be at fault for the intrusion?  Or should they have to wait until you were able to prove them in the phone call without the shadow of a doubt that there was an attack?

There's more important police corruption scandals than Barney Fife and his lemonade iron fist in Havertown.

Then the people who reported this heinous non-crime of selling lemonade should be charged for a clear false alarm.

Let's not confuse regulations on businesses that exploit the general public, with shutting down kids' lemonade stands.

It's rooted in the same principle though. How do you know the kids making lemonade ensured their product was inspected to conform to government regulations before being marketed?

It's happened again- and again- in San Francisco and in Portland, OR.
