Since no one else seems to want to run can we go ahead and start the voting process?

I will abide to the 48 hour limit to give people full time to announce.

In the meantime, I do believe we should endorse a candidate for the upcoming special election. While we will not be running a candidate in the race, I think it is important as a party that we weigh in, especially with questions of Senate balance in question.

Sure, we can do that.

I would prefer to wait another day...if you all don't mind. There may be another candidate entering.

Is there a deadline for when someone can enter a special senate race?

PiT's RPP project gave me an idea, so here is a compilation of party membership by region:

                         DA                JCP                   RPP
Region
Mideast                6                  3                          6
Northeast             6                  3                          4
Southeast            0                   3                          8
Pacific                  1                  17                        2
Midwest               3                  3                          3

Numbers are probably slightly off, as comparing the lists are incredibly blurring and some numbers aren't adding up. Feel free to provide corrections.

What is PiT's RPP Project?

I move to endorse the Democratic Alliance candidate.....Gustaf!

I have great respect for Gustaf, but do you think it is wise for Gustaf to be running? If he somehow wins that would mean there are four DA candidates in the next At-Large Senate race and that would mean we will most likely lose two or more seats.

You've got a point...but it's still illogical to not run for a seat because it might be lost a couple of months later.

Maybe, he can run for the Midwest Senator and not an At-large seat.

I think we can start the President and DL elections anytime. Or we can delay those until after the special election endorsement.

I agree, we should go ahead and start the vote.

I guess I should say something on the subject of endorsements in the race I'm in.

Apart from being an actual member of the DA, I believe I have some other things to offer:

1. I really believe in the party platform. I have a strong centrist record throughout my time in the Atlas Forum. Centrism has never been about being inoffensive or cowardly. It's about deeply held convictions and principles combined with the appreciation and tolerance of those with other beliefs and the avoidance of simple populist solutions.

2. I've been here the longest. Not always a good quality, but when it comes to Atlasian politics it sometimes helps to have seen it all happen before. I can help avoiding past mistakes and I have some experience of what works and what does not work when it comes to running these things.

3. I don't take myself too seriously and I'm always ready to listen to the concerns of others, rather than mindlessly pushing for my own pet projects.

Also, I understand there is some concern about my winning a seat resulting in future losses. Things happen quickly in Atlasian politics so it may be different circumstances once we get there. However, I'm perfectly willing to step down for the next election if such is the case.

I think you should run for Midwest Senator, that is why I'm not voting for you. Also, I believe Duke will be a very good Senator that will also bring good debate to the senate that they currently don't have.

So according to the first post the new president nominate a Secretary, then we vote on that person, right?

Sorry, if I'm being a pain in the butt.

A number of amendments to the bylaws:

Section 1:

(1) The President is the official head of the DA and public representative of the Party. He/she presides over conventions and all internal votes. He/she is elected at every convention by party members, and must receive at least 50%+1 of votes cast to be deemed elected.

(i) In the event that no candidate for President receives 50%+1 or more of all votes cast, another round of voting will be held until a President is elected.

(ii) At any time during the vote, one candidate for DA President may assign all votes received to any other candidate for President.

(2) The Deputy Leader represents the DA in relations with other parties and assumes the interim leadership when the chair is unable to fulfill his duties. He/she is elected at every convention by party members, and must receive 50%+1 of votes cast to be deemed elected.

That seems fair.

Can I vote, or does the ten days before you can vote rule apply to party conventions as well?

I'm sure you can vote, just go ahead and vote and if the Hashemite think your vote should count he will say so.
