Also worth noting: the Big 10 and AAC finals start so late (and finish so close to the start of the selection show) that their outcomes will likely have zero impact on the bracket. Since Purdue, Iowa, Houston, and Memphis are all solidly in the field, their slots will be decided before those games finish.
I've long thought the SEC (and presumably everyone else) should end the SEC Tournament on Saturday and give the selection committee a whole day to figure it out.
It's been a while now, but I think this really hurt Mississippi State in 2009 and 2010. In 2009, we won the SEC Tournament to get to 23-12 (9-7) but just crossed out the last at-large team and handed us their #13 seed, when we probably would have been a couple seeds higher had they considered our full resume and slotted us in.
In 2010, we lost in overtime by 1 to Kentucky (controversially I'll add) right before the selection show. I just don't think there was enough time to re-evaluate us and likely give us a spot. It hurt extra when the tournament expanded from 65 to 68 the very next year.
In both years, I think the committee had already judged us to be "OUT" before Sunday.
