There were serious illegalities in this race. Had the Dems stayed out of the GOP primary after voting in their own, he would've won and Thad would be retiring at the end of the year.
None of what you're describing is illegal.
It technically is illegal to vote in a primary if you have no intention of supporting whoever wins no matter what, but that's impossible to prove (and has been declared such).
But as I've mentioned, I do kinda sympathize with him, since I'd be so infuriated if a bunch of Republicans tainted a Democratic primary like that. It is indisputable that McDaniel got a majority of the Republican vote on June 24.
