Maybe its Sotomayor.  She has become increasingly mentally unhinged thanks to Covid and now refuses to be in the same room as unmasked people, despite presumably being fully vaccinated.  Since she's too afraid to attend in person work-related meetings, seems possible she's going to retire soon realizing that Covid is never going away.

She literally has a chronic auto-immune disorder and at much higher risk for a serious covid infenction ffs

Gorsuch is literally putting her life in danger
He "literally" is not. Gorsuch (like every other justice) is fully vaccinated and boosted, and is currently asymptomatic. If Sotomayor is still worried about transmission, she always has the option of wearing an N95 mask — which, as we've discussed extensively over the last few weeks, protects the wearer even if other people are not wearing masks. The likelihood of transmission from a boosted, asymptomatic person to a boosted, N95-wearing person is basically nil. This is theater, nothing more.
If politely asking your coworkers to wear a mask while you’re all in a meeting together is “theater,” then what do you call being the one jerk in the office who refuses to wear one?

"Politely" is nowhere to be found in the tweet, thats your inference.  I'd just call the refusal simple common sense.  No need to cover up your face simply to satisfy someone elses neurosis when it has literally no clinical benefit.  Sonia Sotomayor is going to be around people "literally putting her life in danger" until she goes to the grave if this is the standard everyone is now held to.

Okay, but Gorsuch is one of Sotomayor's eight closest colleagues, not some random guy she runs into now and then. It's selfish and unkind to be the one person in a hypochondriac's life who refuses to help them feel more at-ease, even though it's not quasi-homicidal in the way that leecannon is saying it is. Gorsuch is the most intellectually serious of the current ultraconservative justices and one of maybe three or four current justices tops who engages in actual thought at all, but he's struck me as a royal pain in the ass on a personal level for a while now and my hearing this doesn't do much to change that impression.

If somebody close to me had this paranoia and fear, I wouldn't validate it or encourage it.  I certainly wouldn't cover my face just to satisfy them.  This would have been a no-brainer pre-Covid, and in fact it should be now but we have a traumatized population.  The correct answer is for her to seek help, not try and dictate what other people wear.
Nobody is asking Gorsuch to wear a mask all day. Just when they’re all clustered together in close proximity on the bench for oral arguments. It has nothing to do with encouraging or validating anyone. It’s just a basic professional courtesy that costs a person nothing.

I’m vaxed and boosted, and at my job our boss let’s us use our own discretion about wearing masks. But if I have to go into a conference room with a bunch of other people, and everyone else is masked up, I’m gonna put my dang mask on to err on the side of not making anybody uncomfortable because aside from being the recommended public health precaution, it’s a nice thing to do.

Covering up your face simply to placate hypochondriacs is not in any way a professional courtesy.  Our society is so damaged, and I have no intention of contributing to the mass hysteria.

Of course, its all moot because I am not able to choose whether or not to cover my face and havent had that option since April 2020, save for 2 months last summer.
