Rob Bishop has resigned from the commission. This late in the process, is he going to have to be replaced?

Reason for resignation is frustration with the commission drifting away from his approach to having gerrymandered urban-rural mix districts.

What is it with redistricting commissions all having one pigheaded weirdo who insists on pushing their harebrained plans on everyone else? Colorado, Michigan and now Utah all have one (Virginia too maybe?).

Utterly shameless.

Is it impossible for Utah voters to pass a redistricting commission with actual teeth next time?

Looking at the map, to me it honestly seems like UT-3 is destined to trend leftwards most over the coming decade, combining fast-growing suburban areas where Republicans have much room to fall with some slow-growing rural areas. Dems aren't exactly maxed out in terms of margins.

lmao who gives a sh*t, they're all Safe R and will remain so even after a decade's worth of trend

On the bright side if Utah gains a 5th district after 2030 there will be at least one fair, Democrat district out of them all...

Doubt it. They'll just keep cracking SLC in as many pieces as it takes.

That'll make it all the more hilarious when metro SLC gets big enough and liberal enough that it ends up flipping every district to the Democrats as a result.

That would imply Utah as a whole being a Democratic state, which. No lol. It didn't happen in 2016 and it won't happen in 2036 either.

Muh trends won't save you here. The only solution is a Congress-imposed independent commission, or a SCOTUS decision outlawing partisan gerrymander (which, yeah, unlikely too).
