A wonderful ideal to strive for, though it's important not to confuse ideals with reality.
Sorry, I'm realizing just how cryptic that comment was.
What I mean is that marriage is obviously a good institution, born from one of the noblest human ideal (ie eternal, devoted and uncompromising love). Actual married couples can hardly live up to this ideal, hence why public policy needs to tweak it somewhat (divorce and all). But anyway, both the
ideal of marriage and the
social/legal institutions are generally good things, though the latter can become bad if constructed poorly.
