No. Not even the Mayan calender says it will be the end of the world. It's the end of an "era", whatever will happen in the new era remains to be seen.

So, they got sick of predicting the future eerily correctly and decided to freak everyone out, big deal. Tongue

And I'm pretty sure the Mayans didn't deliberately plan an elaborate hoax on us futurelings.

It's probably something astrological that was significant to them in that time but in our time is probably going to be pretty mundane. Though the idea of a pole shift is not out of the question.

it's not just the Mayan calendar.
a lot of prophets like nostradamus predicted the end of the world at the beginning of the new millenium. seems like a good time for an apocalypse, beginning of a millenium. really sells it. if it was say, 1754 that someone predicted, that'd seem a little random wouldn't it? It'd be tough to take that guy seriously if he said 1754.

the world's not gonna end, it might change though.

2012 isn't random?

Considering a millenium is a human construct, assuming that a millenium is not an abstract time for the world to end, also entails assuming that humans have tapped into something with their construct.

Like I said earlier, 2012 could be something very mundane to us and have been very important to them. Probably just something interesting astrologically.

It's like the Y2k problem, except that no computers have been programmed using Mayan dates.

If the Mayans had been such great prognosticators they would have made the end much sooner - as their civilization is long gone.

Actually they did predict the end of their civilization and they acknowledged they'd be long gone before 2012 came around.

Man, I really starting to believe this poll shift and/or Obama causing nuclear holocaust thing

My fears about 2012 seems to be getting worse lately

Seems to me if you're honestly convinced that 2012 is going to be the end of the world, you should be content in that you have no control over the matter, let go, and go enjoy what is presumably the last years of your life having fun with the people you love. Nothing to be afraid of if you can't prevent it Smiley

Tik, sometimes you say some profoundly reasonable things. Kudos.
