That random Lee Kovarsky idiot, whoever the hell he is, wants to talk like he's smarter than everyone else ("Look at the single greatest mistake everyone else is making except ME!")

Internet rando calls a law professor at the University of Texas an "idiot".

This thread has the most bizarre gotcha attempts. And they all seem rooted in an expectation that other people are secretly also personality cultists for anyone who ever got some support.

Like we're all going to concede that justice is bad if it could also get Gary Condit in trouble.

"Oh you think Trump should be charged? I guess you think it's impossible for anyone to be innocent and want your hero Matthew Broderick charged." What? I don't care about that person.

It's ALWAYS projection.

Manhattan DA Bragg sues GOP House Judiciary chairman to prevent interference in Trump case

Quote
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is suing House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, an Ohio Republican, over what the lawsuit describes as a “transparent campaign to intimidate and attack” the district attorney and interfere in his office’s case against former President Donald Trump.

Bragg is seeking to block a subpoena for testimony from Mark Pomerantz, a former senior prosecutor in his office, as well as other demands for “confidential documents and testimony from the district attorney himself as well as his current and former employees and officials.”

“Chairman Jordan’s subpoena is an unconstitutional attempt to undermine an ongoing New York felony criminal prosecution and investigation. As our complaint details, this is an unprecedented, illegitimate interference by Congress that lacks any legal merit and defies basic principles of federalism,” Bragg said in a statement.

Jordan subpoenaed Pomerantz late last week for his role investigating Trump and his business empire – as House Republicans have sought to frame the recent indictment against the former president as politically motivated.

Jordan really has no shame. I hope the judge slaps him on the head.

If Trump could be prosecuted for mishandling classified documents, couldn’t Biden and Pence be as well?

No.

My aunt compared Trump to Nelson Mandela in case you’re still wondering how octogenarians think.

That's a curious comparison for so many reasons.

Technically, they could, but they will not.
They did not willfully take and/or hide documents from the Feds.
They immediately admitted to having some, and invited federal authorities to check their storage areas for the possibility of other documents that were stored by them in error.
This is a Day-And-Night difference between what the Orange Buffoon did.

That’s dumb. If they mishandled classified documents, they should be indicted.

If you commit a crime and co-operate with police, your sentence MAY be lessened, but you will still be charged with a crime.

You can thank me later.

Unless Trump admits the crimes he committed and apologizes for them there is absolutely no reason for Biden to pardon Trump.
And we all know how likely is for Trump to do something like that.

Actually, it totally would be in his nature to do something like that if it were to avoid prison, only to publicly repudiate such statements afterwards. Trump has no problem cosplaying as a martyr as long as it doesn't come with the actual consequences of the real deal.

Trump wouldn't be caught dead admitting any wrongdoing. He'd prefer martyrdom and jail.

A federal judge on Thursday decided to give the Manhattan District Attorney exactly what he wants: a video copy of former President Donald Trump’s damning testimony in an unrelated rape and defamation case that was decided earlier this year.

For months, DA Alvin Bragg Jr.’s prosecutors have been trying to get their hands on a taped deposition in which Trump actually said stars like him get away with sexual harassment “unfortunately—or fortunately.”

https://www.thedailybeast.com/trumps-bid-to-sink-the-manhattan-da-alvin-braggs-case-has-already-made-it-stronger

Donald Trump’s attempts this summer to drag his porn star-hush money case away from New York’s state courts and once again hide behind his presidential credentials has given Manhattan prosecutors a little-noticed ace in their pocket—one they can now use to bolster their case.

For months, critics of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg Jr.’s case have called it weak because the case criminally charges Trump with faking business records—a lowly misdemeanor only bumped up to a felony on a technicality.

Except that Trump’s ploy to move the case to federal court gave a judge there the opportunity to take the first swing. And he used that opportunity to make it clear that the case against Trump is far more serious than it otherwise seems—and that the burden for proving that Trump’s alleged falsification of business records are felonies is low.

Trump only ask Pence to overturn the election in an "aspirational way"

I guess a bank robber can ask for all the money in an "aspirational way" as well maybe?

If you're asking if it's illegal to go into a bank and say "Can I have all of the money in your vault?," the the answer is no.

But if you ask it while pointing a gun at the bank's employees...

I don't see why people view this case as not bad for Trump? Seems pretty likely he'd be found guilty here.

Because the media always graded Trump on a curve. Despite all the enmity their relationship is symbiotic and both get something they want out of it.

I'm not sure there's anything he can do since the judge has now stated he sees these last minute efforts as disingenuous. I think the judge has to approve the attorneys leaving the case so maybe even that wouldn't work. I think he will keep trying things though because it diverts the prosecution's attention away from the case when it has to respond to all these filings.

This case is a joke and should be thrown out and I say this as somebody who loathes Trump and wishes he'd just kick the bucket already. The fact that this judge hasn't tossed this case proves that he's a hack because any legitimate honest judge would've dismissed it.

Trump's best strategy is to delay. He's not getting a fair trial in Manhattan. He could try and fire his lawyers and if that doesn't work, feign illness. I do wonder what would happen if he just hunkered down in Mar-a-Lago and refused to show up? New York courts have zero jurisdiction over Florida and DeSantis could block any extradition requests.

Perhaps GOP governors could come together and economically boycott New York state until the case is dropped (i.e bar official travel, prohibit trade, ban flights, etc?)

Nice try but two federal judges have signalled that the case is serious.
Try harder next time "Trump hater".

one of the biggest lib propagandists says Trump is sleeping, and people take her word as true

lol Maggie plz

Calling Maggie Habberman a liberal propagandist is genuinely insane

It's also ungrateful. Good ol' Maggie was one of Trump's most dutiful stenographers when he was president. She even sat on unflattering information about him with the excuse of wanting to use that information for her book.

www.dontgiveableep.com

Seriously, we are arguing over paperwork? From almost ten years ago!

Meanwhile, an old lady just got mugged in Manhattan, somebody just got pushed onto a subway track, a homeless man is defecating on the sidewalk, etc. But the Manhattan DA is more concerned about paperwork from 10 years ago. Give me a break!

Putin: America isn't a real democracy because my good friend Donald Trump is prosecuted for his political beliefs.

Every single juror identity going to leak, and they're going to have their lives ruined, just like those poll workers in 2020. What a totally f'd situation.

If they can't handle it, they can excuse themselves, just like juror 2 did.

I guess you would have the same cavalier attitude if instead of your Cheeto God the accused was a mob boss and followed the same tactics.

Meanwhile, off in journoland:

I'm not a lawyer but isn't the speech that endangers other people's safety and lives unprotected by the first amendment?
I mean if it isn't then you can reveal the whereabouts of a person in witness protection and suffer no consequences.

Shouldn't the fact that this ljube fellow is essentially condoning jury intimidation and violence have some consequences? He is literally acting like a Trump goon ("nice life you have there, would be a shame if  anything happened to it because you don't love Trump").

I don't think he's trying to condone it but clarifying that might help.

He wasn't expressing concern. He was giddy because a couple of "Democratic plants" were intimidated and forced to resign.
