Jessica Watkins: Oath Keepers member and Army veteran sentenced to 8.5 years in prison for January 6.

Jessica Watkins, an Army veteran and member of the far-right Oath Keepers, was sentenced Friday to 8.5 years in prison for participating in a plot to disrupt the certification of the 2020 presidential election culminating in the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol.

Judge Amit Mehta said ...
“Your role that day was more aggressive, more assaultive, more purposeful than perhaps others’. And you led others to fulfill your purposes,” Mehta said. “And there was not in the immediate aftermath any sense of shame or contrition, just the opposite. Your comments were celebratory and lacked a real sense of the gravity of that day and your role in it.”

Another Trump Cultist bites-the-dust.
In prison where they belong.
Glad the courts are consistently throwing these domestic terrorists/insurrectionists, behind bars.

With the rate these convictions are coming I expect Trump to campaign on restoration of felons' voting rights.

Trump pressured Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey to overturn 2020 election

Quote
In a phone call in late 2020, President Donald Trump tried to pressure Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) to overturn the state’s presidential election results, saying that if enough fraudulent votes could be found it would overcome Trump’s narrow loss in Arizona, according to three people familiar with the call.

Trump also repeatedly asked Vice President Mike Pence to call Ducey and prod him to find the evidence to substantiate Trump’s claims of fraud, according to two of these people. Pence called Ducey several times to discuss the election, they said, though he did not follow Trump’s directions to pressure the governor.

The extent of Trump’s efforts to cajole Ducey into helping him stay in power has not before been reported, even as other efforts by Trump’s lawyer and allies to pressure Arizona officials have been made public. Ducey told reporters in December 2020 that he and Trump had spoken, but he declined to disclose the contents of the call then or in the more than two years since. Although he disagreed with Trump about the outcome of the election, Ducey has sought to avoid a public battle with Trump.

WTF did he think all those governors were? His personal private investigators?

Great! This will wrap up the GOP nomination for Trump now. The more times he's indicted, the stronger he becomes.

I know we've all gotten numb to it, but it's actually insane when you think being indicted helps a candidate to secure the nomination. I couldn't imagine something like this in a Democratic primary.

I think it’s the charges.. he’s not really facing murder, rape, or theft charges, which people would understand. The charges are either too complicated for the common man (Mar a’ Lago), are directly related to a political election and therefore provoke partisan reactions (January 6th & GA), or are just plain trash (Bragg’s case). There’s no real identifiable victim who suffered injury in any of the charges, unless you get real vague and say “The American people as a whole are victims!”

TIL that trying to overthrow the government and stealing government secrets are misdemeanors but getting blowjobs is a felony.

https://www.dogshirtdaily.com/p/can-we-identify-the-trump-indictment?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email

“We basically know three things, two of them from Trump, and one of them from the press. From Trump we know (1) that he received the target letter on Sunday, and that (2) it gave him four days to come into the grand jury. From the press, we know (3) that one of Smith’s senior prosecutors was spending quality time with the grand jury last week.”

“This last fact is important, because it suggests that prosecutors may have already presented their case to the grand jury and have held off only on having the grand jury vote on whether to hand up the charges. In other words, it suggests that the gun is loaded and the safety is off. They don’t need any additional time or steps before pulling the trigger.”

“Counting four days from Sunday would bring us to Thursday evening…. So I’m thinking an indictment on Thursday or Friday is the most likely scenario.”

Watching Trump surrogates spinning this on CNN this morning is absolutely maddening. No wonder so many people are brainwashed. This FL dope right now is presenting this indictment as an attack on free speech and comparing Trump's actions to Hillary Clinton and John Kerry saying the election was rigged.

Like someone said, if Trump is vindicated then muggers will argue next that saying to their victims "stick em up and give me your money" is protected speech.

Milley would never go along with this plan. He said so to anyone who wanted to hear.

BTW, a giant thank you to Kevin McCarthy. If he didn't withdrew the Republican members then the 1/6 committee wouldn't have discovered that treasure trove of evidence which made Smith's job so much easier.

lol Trump wants the case moved to WV

Quote
The latest Fake “case” brought by Crooked Joe Biden & Deranged Jack Smith will hopefully be moved to an impartial Venue, such as the politically unbiased nearby State of West Virginia! IMPOSSIBLE to get a fair trial in Washington, D.C., which is over 95% anti-Trump, & for which I have called for a Federal TAKEOVER in order to bring our Capital back to Greatness. It is now a high crime embarrassment to our Nation and, indeed, the World. This Indictment is all about Election Interference!!!

The Radical Left wants to Criminalize Free Speech!

I know that the guy is an ignoramus of unimaginable proportions. But hasn't anyone of his lawyers explained to him that there is a thing called the 6th amendment?

Just dropping this: While the former guy is consumed with his indictment and preparing to appear before a court, the incumbent is having a good time.

The only thing Trump reads is fast food brochures.

Andrew McCarthy (a smart ex prosecutor) at National Review said that it would have been better to defer the Senate trial until well after Trump left office to dig up all the dirt on him, which we know now, but not in Jan of 2021.

McCarthy is a hack who peddles the idiotic freedom of speech defense for this case.

Less is more px. Maybe you will come to realize it as time passes by. Keep hope alive. Anyway, I don't think the legal theories are air tight either (my tentative opinion)  Terrified , although I hope after the jury convicts, they fly, I really do.

McCarthy did however want Trump impeached and convicted and subject to the penalty of being barred from holding federal office forever more, and still does. So call him all the names you wants. It's a free country with a robust free speech law. Insults like that won't get you dates however.

My post is actually pretty subdued compared to the insults hurled at him by people like George Conway, Stuart Stevens, and Charlie Sykes.

I was just telling Dan how unimpressed I was with Conway (yeah I know he has a Pub provinance ala Scarborough whatever, but so what, I was a Pub too once) as a legal CNN talking head, and wished they would get rid of him. Conclusory statements without elucidating competing considerations that make the law so complex, is what Cable TV does so well, which is why it is the last place to go for wisdom. It's spam city. It sucks. It may be even worse than reading Atlas, in fact it probably is.

The worst is listening to a clown like Turley. I'd be embarrassed to have that idiot as a professor.

If someone truly, honestly believed that a bank screwed them out of $1000, robbing the bank would still be a crime.

It's so simple, yet so many people seem to have a hard time comprehending it.

My point wasn't that he's innocent, just that imo legally it is more difficult to get him on these charges than the classified documents. This is a pretty unprecedented situation so that makes it more legally complicated, while lots of people have mishandled documents and had the book thrown at them for it.

As far as the fake electors go, this is an open and shut case. It's indisputable that Trump and his lackeys conspired to reject the legitimate slates and admit the fake ones along with forged certificates.

When for the first 75 years of your life you have done whatever you wanted without ever facing any consequences, it's difficult for you at such an advanced age to grasp the concept of accountability.

THERE IS NO WAY I CAN GET A FAIR TRIAL WITH THE JUDGE “ASSIGNED” TO THE RIDICULOUS FREEDOM OF SPEECH/FAIR ELECTIONS CASE. EVERYBODY KNOWS THIS, AND SO DOES SHE! WE WILL BE IMMEDIATELY ASKING FOR RECUSAL OF THIS JUDGE ON VERY POWERFUL GROUNDS, AND LIKEWISE FOR VENUE CHANGE, OUT IF D.C.

^ Trump saying there's very powerful grounds to remove the judge. Also several other all caps paragraphs this morning and also said Pelosi is a witch and will go to hell someday.

If Trump's family really loved him they'd have him committed at a mental institution.

LOL!

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/donald-trump-2020-election-indictment-lawyer-john-lauro-rcna98406

If former President Donald Trump committed a “technical violation of the Constitution,” it doesn’t mean he necessarily broke any criminal laws, John Lauro, Trump’s criminal defense attorney, argued Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press."

...

“A technical violation of the Constitution is not a violation of criminal law," Lauro contended, saying it was "just plain wrong" to suggest that Trump had pressed Pence to break the law.

"And to say that is contrary to decades of legal statutes,” he continued.

“These kinds of constitutional and statutory disagreements don’t lead to criminal charges," Lauro said. "And one thing that Mr. Pence has never said is that he thought President Trump was acting criminally."

I understand the conspiracy to commit stuff, but what could Filing False Documents be? Did he file anything himself?

Maybe they have proof that he gave the direct order for the fake electors plot which includes fraudulent documents that they were the legitimate Georgia slate.

I have a nagging feeling that if judge Chutkan's grandpa was a Nazi sympathizer Redban would have no problem with that.
