Jesus, I'm watching CNN waiting for this and it's like I'm watching Fox News.  Just incredibly loaded language and relentless attacks on Biden coming from Jake Tapper.
I’ve never seen the media be so out of touch. Not like this

Sure, this is really bad. And it’s news worthy. But 99% of Americans do not care and the media has gone nuts

Good speech. Biden was clear and straightforward

Nothing new though, so I doubt the beltway pudits will let up.

President Biden's speech was sober and utterly unromantic about the reality of the strategic situation in Afghanistan. It is a speech that right wing populists would have wanted Trump to give and that many progressive would have wanted Bernie Sanders to give. I think it shows Biden's unique perspective on foreign policy shaped by his early political career when he first gained elected office as an opponent of Vietnam War. Biden did not even shy away from the fact that he disagreed with President Obama on the surge strategy in Afghanistan. He really is a different kind of Democrat from many of the old guard Third Wayers such as Hillary Clinton and that difference shone through today.
A lot of people have compared the fall of Kabul to the fall of Saigon

Can we talk about how crazy that Biden saw both? Both from a position of power. Biden was on the senate foreign relations committee! He became a senator when the war was still going on and voted for the war powers resolution that prevented the US from saving South Vietnam had it wanted

Despite how you feel about the withdrawal and aftermath, no one knows this type of situation better than Joe F''''''''' Biden

While I did agree with the withdrawal when it was announced (with reservation), in hindsight I think Biden should have kept the 2k troops to prevent the Taliban from taking the major cities (in a strictly non combat role)

What's 50 billion a year? The US can afford that. And double the food stamp program. The idea that it was a choice is silly

I still adore Biden and I understand his choice, but I think this is a disaster that should have been prevented
