Wow. How many are in New York alone?

210 (192 in the City proper) + 44 in New Jersey.

A very young school principal (in her 30s) was the latest casualty named. Sad

Finally, though we still have yet to see the actual text of the bill.

[]

AOC claims it is lacking in worker relief and has $0.5 trillion in corporate bailouts.

Twitter is pretty full of confusion right now.  Lots and lots of figures, numbers, rumors, etc. getting thrown around.

-  "I'm a dependent who recently graduated from college and got a job.  I filed taxes in 2019 but not 2018 as I was not working. Will I see any money?"

- "I'm on social security but don't make enough to file taxes. Are people on social security even included in this bill? Will I see any money?"

- "I make more than 75K but live in an area with an extremely high cost of living.  Will I see any money?"

Etc. Etc.

It probably should be universal for ease of distribution but these people really all think they are special. I think the first had already cleared up by the last bill and is probably the most legitimate of these concerns.

If your only income is social security, nothing about your situation has changed. If it's a matter of medical cost concerns, that can be handled separately. Sorry, no free money for you.

I'm also perpetually sick of the whiners in high COL areas asking for special treatment. 75k isn't enough? If you are making 87k, you were still getting half of it. If your financial situation has changed, you are probably eligible for $3-4k+ a month so long as you apply for jobs.

There are definitely some people actually in need that this misses. These hypotheticals aren't it.

Student debt forgiveness makes very little sense, but the rest of it is awful. It really needs to be monthly, but they must think we are reopening for Easter....

Mount Sinai Hospital's assistant nursing manager - age 48 - has lost his battle with the disease, and the New York Post and Twitter are both taking to blame improper protective equipment. The bravery of these people on the front lines of this battle for which their government has completely failed to equip them cannot be understated.

The Democratic response to every issue (including Coronavirus) is nothing more than anti-Trump virtue signaling.

Neither party has earned any votes for any federal office. I'll find it hard to not vote since as I child I couldn't fathom why anyone wouldn't vote, but it's getting easier every year. Why even bother going out of the way for write-ins or the lesser of two bozos.

90s country star Joe Diffie has passed away from coronavirus at age 61. This may be the most famous young-ish person to pass.

Closed Hahnemann Hospital No Longer an Option to House Coronavirus Patients
Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney said the city doesn't have the time or money to continue negotiating with the shuttered hospital's owner, who wanted about $6 million for a six-month lease

Quote
One of the most obvious options for a place to treat and house coronavirus patients in the coming weeks, the vacant former Hahnemann Hospital, is off the table, Philadelphia officials said Thursday.

“In the midst of a public health crisis, with the numbers of positive cases increasing daily, we simply do not have the time to continue in a lengthy negotiation," Mayor Jim Kenney said.

He and Managing Director Brian Abernathy appeared to lose their patience with the demands of the empty building's owner, Joel Freedman, who closed the nearly 500-bed medical center last year.

"He is looking at this as a business transaction rather than providing an imminent and important need for our city and our residents," Abernathy said. "The owner, Mr. Freedman, was difficult to work with at times when he was the owner of the hospital, and he is still difficult to work with as the owner of the shuttered hospital."

More wonders of the American private medical system. Yes, this seems like a great time to have a closed hospital because of financial disagreements!

The property should be taken from them for nothing. How evil to you have to be not to offer an empty building for use.

John Prine is in critical condition with CoViD. Sad

I'm going to be extremely ill all week with this one - I'm sure you know, but for everyone else, he lost a lot of one lung due to cancer. Just awful.

I think it's fair to assume that DeSantis's future presidential bid is DoA after this. A lot can be forgotten by 2024, but not something as earth shaking as this pandemic.

DeSantis 2024! I don't care that people are dying due to his negligence, it's making libs cry! That's all I care about.

We'll see where they stand in a few days but we can at least throw the per capita argument out the window here. While NY has run more tests, it has nearly 4x the positive test rate. And you'd think if Florida was testing on equal footing, the number would drop (i.e., obvious positives get testing preference). I definitely don't think FL is 'good', but since Cuomo is so good he's a nominee, it seems DeSantis belongs in that territory.

No less than two of my favourite six governors in the country so I don't feel im biased for or against either. We'd be blessed to have one as president.

1 million worldwide cases have been reached.

We'll get past this- and we will sooner than y'all think.  By Memorial Day weekend, we will be grilling out with our friends and swimming in our pools.

'People talking about that which they don't know' example #225,799.

I think a solid slice of America will think this way. Our chief competitor announced plans to reopen May 1, which sounds even more insane than ER's expectation. I don't think people will obey anything past the first week of June with good weather though thankfully New Yorkers consider themselves the center of the universe so it could depend on them. Memorial Day activities will decline and be more sparsely attended, but I think plenty will go on away from the coasts.

The mood seemed to shift significantly today if people can't believe we are at the 20 percent point rather than the 80 percent point and that they feel they've sacrificed all they can. Two more months is definitely pushing it.
