Accomodation is a two-way street. The Bernie wing lost. They should act like it. From a risk-reduction perspective they are obliged to vote for Joe Biden, especially since he's done more than what is necessary to "earn" their vote.

That’s nice to say but doesn’t mean much, especially when the Democratic Party packs up and doesn’t support left-wing candidates that defeat their endorsed candidates in the primary.

The left doesn't get to shove its policy down the throats of the party on basis of consistent, laughable claims that Biden hasn't done enough to "earn" their vote.

This is a weird post. Because the Democratic party is (or pretends to be) a left-wing party!

But no, Biden hasn't really done much to earn people's votes, has he? From complaining about young people to outright telling people at rallies and events to vote for his opponents, he's been pretty bad at giving people a reason to vote for him.

I do feel like the VP choice will be announced sooner rather than later considering what is going on in the world and the primary already being over. With little (or no?) rallies this campaign season, Dems are going to want the VP pick out early enough so people have time to get to know them amidst all the coronavirus coverage.

Do we really need to wait 3 months? It’s not like Biden is doing anything right now except sitting at home anyway.

Bad sign for Harris

This is what I thought... maybe Clyburn heard some things and is trying to downplay expectations of a black VP.

I hate to be that guy but can we keep this thread for VP news and move the discussion and huge quote pyramid to another thread?

Honestly, and I'm saying this as someone who doesn't dislike her, Klobuchar is a very uninspiring and boring pick. Who's excited for her? Middle aged suburban soccer moms in Minnesota? So yeah, I can understand why people don't love the prospect of her being the VP.

Wow, so many people are FURIOUS at the fact that Amy is being vetted. I don't want Amy to be Biden's VP pick but the outrage online especially by Bernie Bros and other progressives is ridiculous

So, in light of that, how about we don’t needlessly give the finger to a large segment of the Democratic base this cycle?
What's this supposed to mean? Huh

It means that the VP pick should be someone who appeals to a large segment of the Democratic base, one who supports policies that a majority of the party supports.

I agree and Kamala fits the bill.

Sure, but she's not a perfect fit. I feel like someone who's a combination of Harris and Warren, without either's weaknesses, would be the best pick. But no such person exists.

https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/499936-top-democratic-pollster-advised-biden-campaign-to-pick-warren-as-vp

Quote
One of the Democratic Party’s top pollsters gave a presentation to senior members of former Vice President Joe Biden’s presidential campaign earlier this month making the case that Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) would provide the most upside as Biden’s running mate.

Stanley Greenberg, who advised the presidential campaigns of both former President Clinton and former Vice President Al Gore, presented a 14-deck slide to the Biden campaign detailing how the likely Democratic nominee needs to grow his support among young people and Democrats who did not support him during the primary.

I think Warren's unlikely in the sense that she'd overshadow Biden, but maybe Massachusetts is the place to go. How would you feel about putting Ed Markey on the ticket?

Um, being from Massachusetts isn't the reason Warren is a good pick. so Markey as a compromise pick makes no sense.

There's a lengthy discussion about this in the megathread, just so you know.

A separate thread is better because the megathread is for news and discussion about this clogs it up.

Yeah I’m sure Politico and a lot of other media outlets have pre-written articles for each VP candidate. It’s weird that one has a quote from a Biden speech that never happened though.

That is what stuck out to me. Hmm
Do you think they got access to his speech? I have to assume they write rest for everybody, but I could be wrong

Even if Harris is the pick, I doubt a speech is written yet for an announcement 5 or so+ days out. If there's a speech, it'll go through revisions until the day of.

So even if she is the pick, this whole thing is probably just a coincidence?

I think it was a test that was accidentally published. Someone was just being creative with the text.

He had a section on Harris because she’s a leading candidate for VP and in case a reporter says “you’re looking into choosing Harris but you and her had tension at the debate last year”.

The idea that a white woman is better suited to addressing/supporting racial Justice issues than a black woman is LAUGHABLE at best. No matter how many times Liz tries to shapeshift/tick boxes on a form. Lived experience MATTERS.

You don't need to tear others down to make a point.

I feel like this thread should be locked. I'm tired of the Harris stand and Harris haters bickering over the same things over and over when all I want is VP news.

The Duckworth wiki edit doesn’t mean that it’s her but it definitely means she’s in strong contention.

Hmm - perhaps the lateness of the announcement indicates that it's Harris? It's still 8:52 out west.

Just speculation btw

She’s probably in DC right now and the press has never cared about the time zone in the west before anyway.
