As of yet, the bill has received a muted response.

On that note, I'm calling on the Assembly to do its job. Or could some citizens of the Mideast comment? Everything seems to get a muted response these days.

Time to pick the mantle back up and restart the fight for common sense and justice against a new enemy!

What about the fight against common sense and justice? Sad

We entrust that job to you...

It is unfortunate that the most active region in Atlasia can't attract enough interest to function as it should. This is partially due to the number of other offices filled by Mideast members; however, there are more than enough residents of the region to make it more exciting.

We have the potential to make Assembly races interesting and competitive, we just need active members. I am hoping, after the Assembly elections currently underway, to open up a new agenda that promotes more active membership. It was my hope that the new Mideast Constitution would have helped things along, but it is clear that a more radical approach will be required to maintain interest and attract new membership.

At present the vote is split 4-4, the RPP voting to extricate the Government from involvement with this issue. Only Sen. Bacon King and Sen. Smid have yet to vote. Should Bacon King turn up, he is expected to be a safe Nay vote. Sen. Smid though has been equivocating.

Statement from Senator Smid:

Contrary to recent rumours, I am not equivocating on the HIV/AIDS Bill.

My position on this legislation is clear. Until a Needle Exchange Programme is introduced in Atlasia, I cannot support the Bill.

I am drafting a Bill to introduce in the Senate and if passed, I will not hesitate to agree to the HIV/AIDS Bill.

/ends.

The current vote will expire before any such bill comes to the floor.

I suggest just creating a second newspaper for your RPP obsession, since most of the recent articles and comments here seem to be all about them.

I have no love for some of their positions but this is getting silly.

Agreed. These are non-starter stories. It would be nice to have some real news again.

Are you opposed to the freedom of the press?

I think he (and I) would just prefer more meaningful discourse by the press.

That's perfectly fine to feel that way, no worries.

Might I suggest that you create your own newspaper as an alternative? It's always good to have competition.

Between the Convention and Mideast Assembly I would rather express my opinion on matters in regular commentary and debate (and through my campaign), rather than start my own paper. In general I don't find anything wrong with The Examiner, but when it falls into continuous RPP-bashing it really does get tiresome.

How is this not meaningful discourse? The RPP currently has a very large edge, as their own leader has made clear a number of times, in the Senate. To ignore that would be silly. Whether you like it or not, they're currently, by far, the most newsworthy party in the game.

There have been some interesting stories in this paper, but Jas seems to have become solely focused on attacking the RPP. Now it's that they lack party discipline. Of course, if they all voted together 100% of the time then he would bash them for lock-step voting behind their party leader. Enough with this already.

If you want to report on the RPP you can note that, due to public pressure, they have publicized their platform. You can report on the Convention (I'd hope that is more newsworthy than the RPP). I don't disagree with reporting on individual parties, but this is simply a constant attack on the RPP by Jas. It deteriorates the integrity of the paper.

Interesting stuff there. Bacon King will surely be missed. And I want to congratulate my fellow DA party-member Franzl on his outstanding job in the Senate and great results in the approval rating poll.

Perhaps a more accurate series of polls could be done where people vote for their first preferences, and then the last place is dropped, followed by second preferences, etc. until you get 5 "winners." But that's up to how you want to run things.

How would at play out when the federal government sends funding, I would assume in Atlasian dollars, if the SE doesn't accept them.

We would simply convert the money and we will still have Atlasian dollars, that's why it is the "Freedom of Currency Act", it allows for the people to choose which currency they want.

VIVA LA DIRTY SOUTH!

So how long before the President takes your region to court? Wink

It would be an incredible run.

It is a pretty exciting race considering I have no idea (even with all the explanations) how this system works. I'll just trust you guys. Wink

C'mon first preferences Wink

And just as a quick defense of Fritz, he gave his reason for giving me his first preference. I didn't lobby him at all. It seems as though he looked into the options and made a real decision.

3 more votes in. Time for another update. Coming right up...

Looking like the final nails in the coffin for me, pending a massive rush of first prefs.

So at this point I need two first-preference votes to pull this out. I don't think any remaining voters even know who I am.

I am extremely happy that the DA, a small party, was able to have such a strong showing in this election. It really shows that we span all parties, all ideologies with our practical approach to governance.

For the record, I have already discussed privately with DWTL that I don't want the seat under these cricumstances.

At the moment it seems that DWTL is the fifth position. But if you were to become that position, you're saying you would remove yourself from the race?

What would that do to the results and math that's going on?

I have to say. Never have I experienced such a last minute crazy fest.

Interested to see the final breakdown by Jas.

Does this mean Purple State and Happywarrior will now be the furthest left economically?

A true pity.

I believe I have made it clear I am always open to educated and well-presented ideas by constituents. It seems I was able to pull out a win here and, if so, I hope you will not be afraid to approach me with any ideas you may have.

Does all Federal election go down to the wire like that? That was great!

Unfortunately not. This has been an incredible race turnout wise and excitement wise.

That would be because most left wing voters are idiots, I'm afraid.

Wait, what has just happened? I am now confused.

I believe I pulled enough last 5 minute votes to get a seat. A lot of stuff happened since the last update though so no clue what the breakdown is.

Of course, I'm not sure if the booth closed at 1:12:00 or 1:12:59. If the latter, then Phil and Jas just missed the deadline.

Presumably at 1:12:35, exactly 72 hours after it opened.

Which would mean Phil made the vote but not the write-in acceptance.

That would be truly amazing if we really got in all 3 DA candidates.

It would be a testament to our versatility and less ideologically driven nature. We believe in practical solutions. That gets votes.

I'm still counting, but you all seem to have overlooked that SPC edited his own vote about 2 hours ago...

So he killed his own vote to push DWTL forward. Or did he bump himself below Lief?

There are two issues left to deal with in this election's aftermath.  First we need one or two new assembly members.  I'd first recomend devilman and then persepolis.

I have already spoken to Inks on this matter. It seemed obvious we would have at least one seat empty from fairly early in the day.
