Was funny, watching 6ABC's 4:30pm news yesterday while I was in the gym. They actually coincidentally did a story on political ads this cycle, and some study that tells people most of the info you're getting from political ads isn't great, and you should find your information elsewhere, etc.

They then go into the Oz-Jim Gardner ad as an example. They of course did it in a respectable, nonpartisan way, but said how this is a great example because not only did Jim Gardner not approve (or have to approve) the ad, but that they used a fake chyron in the ad that 6ABC never ran. Was pretty proud that they showcased that (as they should, since Oz is faking stuff to make it look like it was something 6ABC actually ran)

The irony of it all was that the next commercial break right after... that same Oz ad ran lmao.

Was only watching for a short time, but I saw a Chrissy Houlahan ad, an Andy Kim ad, that Oz ad, and then one pro-Lisa Scheller and anti-Scheller ad.

So the situation is backfiring almost perfectly.

Was shown a poll today showing a modest Fetterman lead. Among Fetterman's supporters, 97% support him "strongly" with only 72% of Oz's supporters saying the same.

Do you personally think Fetterman will win, even if it's only a small advantage (e.g. 60% chance)?

Why aren't people considering a Bradley Effect of sorts? In a state this close, you can't afford to lose much of your base. Even if 5% of Trump voters don't vote for Oz it could affect him.

The issue with the Black turnout dooming is that they will turn out in full force for Shapiro, so most will vote for Fetterman even if they wouldn't turn out if it was just him.

If the Fetterman campaign is smart, they'll go all-in on a strategy to hit Oz for serving in the Turkish military and hint at him being Muslim in the last week. Democrats will hate this but, guess what? Most of them will have already voted via absentee ballot!

Both these can be true:

1) Fetterman's performance was utterly atrocious

2) American voters are dumb, so soundbites matter more then content. Oz had more dumb soundbites.

I actually just took the time to watch the debate, so a few thoughts:

1) Fetterman's performance was completely atrocious. Particularly on fracking, which isn't good if you want to keep the rural vote decent (which Fetterman does)

2) Even though it's not true, Fetterman didn't look good when he waited for a long time to answer the question. Yes I know he has to read the closed-captioning, but debates are about optics.

3) Oz came out as a cold, opportunistic snake oil salesman. To be fair, most had their impressions of him already hardened, but still.

4) The electorate doesn't always think reasonably. Hillary Clinton won the 2016 debates against an opponent people hated with speech issues, and still lost. Whether it be sympathy or   populism people might not be as revolted by Fetterman as USERS think.

5) Soundbites are everything. Fetterman's performance was just consistently bad, while Oz's failures were just a few moments. But that's what matters. You can't air an hour straight of John Fetterman coming off as dumb, but you very much can air 'woman, doctor, and local elected officials'. This is also important since a negligible percentage of the state actually watched the debate.

What I can't shake here is the implication embedded in all of the posts from our "friends" on the other side, which is that if you've had a stroke that causes aphasia, you are either disqualified from public service because it's somehow an immutable characteristic or you should retire from public life and "focus on recovery" i.e. more or less retire to nursing home. If anything horrible has ever happened to you? It's time to basically give up on life because if you do that, it helps some scumbag snake oil peddler with a R behind their name get elected to Senate.

John Fetterman is 53 years old. His brain is almost certainly in better shape than the brain of Chuck Grassley and we can expect Fetterman will be alive for much longer than Grassley will be alive. Yet we're subjected to a torrent of abuse when Grassley is effectively running as a rotting corpse. It isn't insulting to mention this about Grassley because the curse of our mortality and fragility in old age is a fact of human life - he is doomed to die sooner rather than later.

The hypocrisy and lack of self-reflection here is stunning. It is possible to hope for your candidate to win without signaling that a father with children who seems to basically be a good guy is a reprobate and also a vegetable.

You people keep demonstrating why this frenzied defense of Fetterman is such a turnoff. You know it's a bad situation but you think if you just talk enough, regardless of whether you know what the hell you're talking about, it will just go away.

Undecided voters don't want to hear "don't worry, his brain is fine" from someone whose basis for saying that is nothing beyond wishful thinking. They don't to hear what-about-ing about Herschel Walker or Chuck Grassley.

Undecided voters want to know why you people insisted Fetterman was ready to debate and would be fine, and he wasn't. What happened? And why should anyone believe this is the last time the Fetterman campaign will offer reassurances that turn out to be empty?

He turned up to the debate and had problems communicating, which is perfectly consistent with stroke-induced aphasia. Another fact is that aphasia is a condition that may be overcome, albeit with a lot of effort, relatively swiftly - not over 4 months but over a few years. There is no "whataboutism" here. Fetterman performed miserably: he had a stroke and has aphasia. I don't think this is a problem because it's a temporary condition.

Fetterman has had a severe case of Asphasia for over 5 months, so it isn't temporary.  The greatest rate of recover occurs within the 1st days and month, and the rate of recovery drops after the 6th Months. A patient that doesn't start recovery will only solidify the symptoms.  High stress environments can worsen the condition by creating anxiety, depression, and agitation for the patient.  

It's also worth noting that Fetterman has a big hump on the back of his neck due to fat deposits or tumors.  This is indicative of multiple types of cancers.  People with humps, even when it regresses, have an increased risk of Atrial Fibrillation and stroke.  This is one of the clearest signs that Fetterman's health issues will only worsen in office.

So mocking disabled people wasn't enough? Now you are mocking people who lost 148 pounds?

I'm wondering why people think attacking an overweight person for a medical condition that isn't their fault would be popular in a state where more people than average are overweight with a medical condition that isn't their fault.

Yeah, if Philly can get to the 2018-level turnout, that would be fantastic. That's when Wolf and Casey crushed it with like 87% of the vote.

But if Fetterman underperforms in Philly more votes there would help Oz. I can't see how Fetterman can win this.
