I really wonder why Republicans are struggling in the generic ballot question. Even the Quinnipiac poll with Biden in the mid 30s had them just a single point ahead. Not that I think 2022 will be a very Democratic-friendly year at all, but it's still remarkable.

Democrats are much more likely to disapprove of a President of their party. 90%+ of Republicans approved of Trump, but you could easily have 5% of the total electorate who vote D but think Biden is too right wing.

Biden's decision to cancel student debt gets a 53-43% approval here. So much for the backlash from hArD wOrKiNg aMeRiCaNs.

Student loan debt relief has now gotten either majority or plurality approval in every poll I've seen of it, and most of them are at least net approve by 5% or more. The way this was framed by the press over the last week is truly criminal. They really tried to act as if this was some divisive policy, constantly focusing on the "backlash" and what Republicans had to say about it, with literally no proof that there was "backlash" beyond Republicans whining about it like they do everything else.

Well because whenever they take an executive action, some idiots protest it and it gets overturned in a court for some reason.

At this stage, incumbent Governors and Senators are usually blowing out challengers in states that usually lean in the partisan direction of those States.

Could this be abortion as an issue?

Ironically, abortion is a right in Cuba (a country with practically no human rights) and a crime in Florida. I almost never praise Cuba at the expense of Florida on anything, but this time I do.

Extreme anti-abortion stances are not pro-life; they are pro-death.  Most people who are for abortion rights would try to talk someone out of an abortion if the reasons offered are hollow. Medical necessity and rape (including statutory) are valid causes that I would never talk a woman (or girl if underage -- that is not sexist) out of for a safe or medically-necessary abortion.
