San Francisco voter here. Safai and Breed are both moderate/conservative democrats and there isn't much variety between those choices. I would like to see a progressive socialist like Dean Preston run for mayor. I would love for Brooke Jenkins to lose to a progressive in 2024.

San Franciscan politics is never boring! One of the few remaining machine cities in America these days. I almost feel bad that this was moved to a Presidential year, where it may get drown out as political media focuses elsewhere.

Breed is kind of odd in that I don't think she may fans or many supporters, but at the same time I think the job of being Mayor right now is unattractive enough to dissuade some of the more ambitious people (not unlike New York's 2021 election).

Very curious if there's a rich outsider Caruso-like candidate who may try to jump in. Their base is automatically much smaller than that of Los Angeles, but could still make for an entertaining race.

I am happy about the elections being moved to a presidential year. I didn't want to give our awful mayor and DA another year in office by postponing our municipal elections to 2024 but it seems higher turnout = younger voters, more progressive voters, and less spending on conservative candidates and issues. Most people just don't vote in off year city elections and this has allowed fascist minority rule over San Francisco. I agree with your take about Mayor Breed. People don't like her. Even many "tough on crime" moderate/conservative democrats are done with her because she's all talk and no action. She narrowly won by 1 point in 2018 and since then she has not had a real challenger to take her on. I can only hope that changes in 2024.
