So...I'm hearing things aren't looking too good?

In what respect?

This is hilarious and, I'd guess, unprecedented.

The poll has Whitmer at a 42% approval rating with Republican women... backlash to Dobbs?

I'm not sure how they'd have her be at 42% approval with GOP women and only be 49% overall though...

Probably a small subsample size.  I haven't seen the crosstabs (does anyone have a link?) but if the overall poll sample is 400-500, which would be typical for a statewide poll, then the number of Republican women would likely be somewhere in the neighborhood of 100.

ETA: I still didn't find the crosstabs, but this Detroit News story says the total sample was 600 RV.

@wbrocks67: How about updating the thread title, since Craig is now off the ballot?

The Michigan GOP is looking like a new contender for the worst state party in the country.

Gosh darn, I bet on Craig for the nomination a few months ago and he got kicked off the ballot, a couple weeks ago I bet on Ryan Kelley and now he gets arrested just my luck.

Can you bet on Dixon next?

Not yet sure this will reduce his chances at the nomination.

A colleague who lives in the Detroit suburbs just told me he thinks it will help Kelley.

At the rate that Gretchen Whitmer is cashing in on good luck, this election will be an interesting historical tidbit to re-discover at the Whitmer Presidential Museum's grand opening in 2042.

Counterpoint: she's using it up too quickly and should save some for later in her career!

FiveThirtyEight model expects Kelly to win the primary and gives Whitmer a 91% chance of beating him.
Thats because 538 are dem hacks who want Whitmer to win, thats why they have Kelly leading. It will probably be Dixon and she's got no worse than a 50 50 chance

Dixon would be significantly below a 50% chance to win, although I agree she's probably the strongest remaining R candidate.

Peters went from winning by 13% in a red wave to winning by less than 2% in a slightly blue-leaning year. He's an underdog in 2026, and Whitmer is still in serious trouble this year.

Whitmer is not in serious trouble this year.

538 literally has MI safer than VT lol

Phil Scott has the highest approval rating in the nation and was up by 40% in the most recent poll. Considering you are an unapologetic R hack, I thought you'd agree with that.

I suspect he's laughing at 538 for the questionable (to put it mildly!) rating of Whitmer's chances as better than Scott's.

Unverified social media rumors should be treated with caution.  But do let us know if something substantiated turns up!

Wasn’t one of the downfalls of the Romney campaign their unskewing of polls?

Yes, 2012 was the Great Unskewing Debacle that led some people to think Romney and other Republicans were doing much better than was actually the case.

This...is a pretty weird message to take.

Reminds me of Scott Jensen's ad saying that you should ignore his views on abortion because he can't do anything about it anyway. Is this the new GOP strategy to sidestep the issue?

It was also Drazan's line defense when asked about the abortion issue at the first Oregon gubernatorial debate. It's certainly an indication that (most) Republican candidates for governor are concerned about the implications of the Dobbs decision on undecided voters. It's especially critical for Dixon, who might otherwise be in a dead heat race with Whitmer were it not for the abortion ballot question.

This is unlikely.  Whitmer would probably still be ahead, although by less than she is now.
