Was he? I thought the vote was party line (more or less), and not particularly close.

It wasn't at all close, and there was zero suspense that Clinton was in any danger of conviction.  67 votes were needed for conviction.  The first count (perjury) failed 45-55.  The second (obstruction of justice) failed 50-50.  All 45 Democrats voted no on both counts.  Five Republicans voted no on both counts, and five others voted no on the perjury count only.
