Graham Brady has arrived at No.10.

Also, the rumoured meeting of the 1922 Executive isn't happening today, perhaps because they view it as futile.

Apparently Truss is the one who has requested the meeting.

From the briefings it seems that Truss aides didn't know of the meeting until Brady was seen walking in. Lines such as "measuring the temperature of the party" are being put about. Coffey, meanwhile, would probably be the top choice for caretaker PM if that scenario arises.

Police escort vehicles now idling at the Downing Street back entrance, according the pool photographer. Same vehicles that escort the PM to the Palace. Things getting very febrile.

The human hand grenade calls a general election?

So, how will history remember Liz Truss?

As a pub quiz factoid.

So, how will history remember Liz Truss?

One of the worst and least effective prime ministers ever. A historical footnote in fifty years.

Less of a footnote than many people who served much longer in the role. Not for the right reasons, however.

She will be the answer to the question "Who was the Prime Minister when Elizabeth II died?" and nothing more.

And "Who had the shortest tenure as Prime Minister?". Actually it's quite a neat juxtaposition - the shortest serving Prime Minister was the last of the longest reigning Monarch.

It’s a shame that we’re looking at an inevitable polling bounce for the Tories now that they’ve ousted Truss.

Mind you, I said the same thing when they ousted Johnson.

There's no one in the Tory Party who can close the gap to even 15-20 points in the short term. Once an election is on the horizon then it's another question.

hahahahaha there's SERIOUSLY a movement to just immediately go back to BoJo??? Incredible.

The most sophisticated electorate in the World!

something something horny slut PM something something double standard something something glass cliff something something oxen

It's a perfectly shrewd choice if their main priority is to ensure a continuing crude soap opera. Which it may be.

The best thing about this is that Tory voters acknowledge the disaster as much as anyone else. There's a lot of things wrong with this country, but it doesn't have the same levels of kneejerk partisanship as do certain other countries.

Good lord, he's a male Truss on that speech. Robotic, cliched, brief and awkward (note his body language just before and after).

I see a lot of people on here have nicknamed the King "Brian". I get it's a joke of some sort, but I don't understand the joke.

It’s the name he was given in Private Eye satire. Iirc this is where “Brenda” for Elizabeth II came from as well.

The idea is that these are not exactly posh sounding names.

I didn't know that Sunak and Brian are roughly the same height.
