I actually think it would depend.  To run nationally Beshear would have to go more left of center and that would alienate a lot of GOP voters that crossed over for him.  So that would mean he lost the state.  If he could somehow maintain a moderate position, though, and not get dragged far to the left on immigration, gun control, and crime then he might have a fighting chance.

It would also depend on who he was facing.  Against someone like Trump he'd have no chance.  But if the GOP nominated someone that had a tough time appealing to rural voters or someone that was just generally weak, then maybe.

Most likely a Beshear candidacy would drive the KY margin down while also faring really well in more purple Southern states like Georgia and North Carolina.  He'd also do really well in Virginia.
