So I think we have all heard how the Sturgis motorcycle rally proved to be a super-spreader event -for comparison's sake, have there been any updated figures on the impact of Black Lives Matter protests on the spread of COVID-19?  The only articles I can find on the subject are from late June into early July, which all say that the protests somehow did not become super-spreader events.  Welcome as the news was, I thought it was a bit early at the time to be drawing those conclusions.  It's been more than two months now since then.  Has anything changed?

The idea that there were 250,000 cases linked to Sturgis has been pretty much debunked as a complete joke.

Not by anybody credible.

Well here’s a weird theory that may explain the lower death rates in the past few months:

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/science-and-disease/face-masks-could-giving-people-covid-19-immunity-researchers/?fbclid=IwAR0z2sVoVRbaFS6uc62aeNHoGGmT9A1c_VpHZ_iBVc588UZ5ve_xYEgKGX0

I’ve felt for a while now that the inital advice of health experts NOT to wear masks may have been the biggest mistake of the entire course of the pandemic.  It would certainly be #1 if this theory turns out to be true.  If all of the lockdowns had simply been replaced with mask requirements, we could have save hundreds of thousands of lives as well as most of the economic damage.

And the reason the experts weren't recommending it was because they didn't want there to be a run on them and a shortage. Which happened anyway. America could have prepped for something like this with a massive stockpile of masks. Instead we invented a military branch to fight aliens.

Homie knows that he finna keep slipping in the karen burbs, and he tryna get the same valley swings like Trump among the mask hating mexicans to offset those losses. Purely political move.

Like srsly, I am pissed off rn, i see like 4 mexicans working in my next doors neighbors yard with 0 distance apart and no masks, those people hate masks, I am no longer surprised at all they swung like 30pts in the valley towards Trump
I get your frustration...but think of how this sounds...
You can't base your beliefs of all Mexicans on four people.

It seems like more of an education divide, which would explain why those working blue collar jobs like that would be less likely to wear masks.

(FWIW I do think RGV Tejanos are swinging towards Trump partially due to anti-intellectualism (which I call dumb*ssery) similar to many other rural people such as WV)

dude, they swung massively towards trump, they are the most unmasked group I see, and I can pull up the stats, but they are contracting covid at a way higher per capita rate than even black people in dallas county. No bueno.

Stupidity and lack of empathy are the only two categories Republicans have room to grow with at this point. That's how they made gains in 2020.

I just dont care if the delta variant is vaccine resistant.

Keep everything open. This variant was probably created by teachers unions in order to avoid going back to the class room in the fall

This is a revolting thing to say.

Glad to see we will have a useful conversation about the Delta Variant and how it should and should not change our approach instead of random conspiracies, personal attacks, and rants.

a lot of people think this decision is political and not based on science.

Not anybody intelligent or credible.

Hard to believe there are still R hacks on here excited about "Ron DeSantis 2024". This guy has failed in just about every respect.

Our covid ICU is starting to fill up again, all with unvaccinated people. Had three people die in the past 24 hours, none of them would be in that spot with a simple vaccine. I can't even begin to describe how frustrating this is, one patient wanted the vaccine before he was intuabted. These people will go for any exiperiminatal treatment we can throw at them once they get in the ICU, sadly there isn't a whole lot we can offer them once they get to us. It usually ends up being a waiting game to see if their body can overcome it after we intubate, prone and paralyze them.

Thank you for your service.

Laws such as this are needed in every state to prevent the Covid freaks from ever masking our children again.

Wow, how heroic. I'm sure you're nutting yourself since you're too much of a baby to handle putting cloth on your face for ten minutes. You're so soft.

It's not just ten minutes. Students have been obliged to wear masks for the entire school day, so for a good seven or eight hours each day. But I am curious. Do you think we should make mask mandates permanent at this point?

No, but I sure don't f***ing think that mask mandates should be illegal in the event of another airborne pathogen epidemic like the room temperature IQ covidiots seem to think.

Yes, I am a hero.  Also not sure where in the world you live, but pretty sure children have been wearing masks for more than 10 minutes a day.  So sorry that this is happening to you.

You're soft on the inside and outside. Very sad to see.

I recovered from Covid in December. I have none of that.

Long Covid is just propaganda.

People will pull up anything they can to get Biden to send everyone 2,000 dollar checks until covid is eradicated off earth.

Half the stuff on that list I had beforehand. It's worth asking how many people might have ended up with anxiety as a result of the pandemic itself and got worse when they got covid (worrying about the outcome. Anxiety can make you hyperaware of things you may have paid little attention to otherwise.

There was a study that found that the only statistically-significant correlation between covid infection and later symptoms was loss of smell.  And that's very uncommon with Omicron.  The rest of the "long covid" stuff is a faulty correlation of either people blaming covid for something (like fatigue) that maybe they mildly had anyway or even purely psychological due to an expectation of that symptom.

Was this from the same scientist who told you dinosaurs coexisted with humans?
