Democrats should stop beating around the bush and pick the one candidate that justifiably scared and preoccupied Chuck Grassley this cycle.

Pidgin 2022.

I guess Democrats might have a hope if Steve King staggers through a split field to win the Republican nomination, but that's even less likely than Greitens getting the MO nomination.

Finkenauer will be crushed by Grassley, like all of his prior opponents, and assuming that he runs again-which it seems like he is going to at this point. The only question is whether or not she will manage to hold him under 60%.

Thank you for saying what needs to be said. The memes need to stop.

Why? It's not like there's much else to discuss about this race.

The primary.

Why would she think this race is winnable when Iowa voted for Trump by more than her a congressional district she could not win.

I mean, it's not like she has anything more exciting going on. I doubt she's truly under the illusion that she'll be favored, but it's common practice for parties to field candidates in much less winnable races than this one.

Ex-incumbents generally can’t afford a second consecutive loss and this race simply isn’t winnable. She’d at least have a chance running for non-federal office or her old seat, especially with redistricting having some potential to shake things up.

So much for a contested Republican primary.

Not much more of interest in this race. Oh well.

Honestly, if I were an ambitious Republican in this state I'd be so pissed.  With no gubernatorial term limits and a geriatric Senator who won't call it quits, there are just no opportunities for career advancement.

There are three Democratic-held row offices and a Democratic-held House seat to contest; all of these are winnable. That’s better for GOP career advancement than, say, Nebraska.

A second consecutive GE loss would have been terminal for her political career. My guess is that this also spells curtains for her, but maybe when Franken loses, she’ll be able to spin some argument about electability.
