Three Democrats think that there might be a possibility that maybe a few of the signatures could, perhaps, be not technically valid despite having been already thoroughly scrutinized and validated by the county boards of elections, so therefore the democratic right of people to participate in an election should be denied based upon the cherrypicking of "evidence" by the DSCC's lawyers that seems to, potentially, indicate this (meanwhile, the Green Party's lawyer's only question to the board chair, asking whether or not the board was even actually contesting any of their 16,000 validated signatures, went unanswered and he was muted via Zoom for even daring to ask it). Cool.

The board said the investigation also identified 145 signatories who sought to revoke their signatures, three individuals who claim they did not sign the petition and several signatures from deceased voters.

wow. a whopping 148 plus "several" other signatures which are allegedly invalid. despite the fact that the green party submitted >2,000 more county-validated signatures than they needed so it wouldn't even make a difference anyway. makes sense.

even the AP and NPR have run stories on it (and even portrayed the green party's perspective in a fairly sympathetic light for once). honestly some of the best national press the greens have gotten in like... forever

the state board of elections are apparently having another meeting this coming monday re: the petition, and the first court hearing starts the following monday. ballots are due to be printed mid-august so a decision will have to come before then

the deadline technically passed on july 1 but even the board agreed that it should be extended by the federal court, which has a hearing scheduled for next monday, august 8. there's really no argument to keep them off the ballot now other than the democrats whining that they will have to compete for votes. welcome to democracy.

this is obviously what the dems on the board intended from the beginning tho, to just delay the certification until after the filing deadline regardless of the number of valid signatures and then throw their hands up and say "oh no, we missed the deadline! now we can't put them on the ballot! however could this have happened?" thankfully it backfired on them bc of the unexpected amount of media attention they garnered in the process

latest update: a u.s. district court has ruled that the demonrat party must pay the greens' legal fees bc their lawsuit trying to kick the 2022 green nc senate candidate off the ballot was "frivolous and without foundation"
