I have to imagine he'll be canonized within a few years.

For canonization, isn't it necessary that a miracle be performed by the prospective Saint?

Yes, but those aren't usually identified until much later and include miracles performed after death via intercessory prayer.

Well even I did the thing I shouldn't do in situations like this;

https://cruxnow.com/covid-19/2020/03/fake-news-aside-friend-says-priest-dead-of-coronavirus-was-still-a-special-person/

'In reality, said Giuseppe Foresti, sacristan of Berardelli’s parish of St. John the Baptist in Casnigo, about 15 miles from Bergamo in northern Italy, the elderly priest simply couldn’t tolerate the ventilator, in part because of preexisting health conditions, and refused to use it.

Foresti emphasized that doesn’t make Berardelli any less of a role model.'

It seems we don't have the complete story as the medical personnel can't provide any official information (and the article also doesn't state how Foresti knows what did or didn't happen), but it's fully possible the initial reporting could've been exaggerated. People are longing for heroes in times like these. Either way, RIP.
