It was simply atrocious.
The Serbian 'Chetniks' were basically a Russian orthodox version of the Waffen SS. Australian sentiment about Serbian war crimes including Srebrenica still linger today.
When you visit Bosnia, you find that the people are harmless and peace loving. It was disgraceful that Dutch UN troops stood by and let it happen.
A Cry From The Grave

11,000 men and boys killed or missing, presumed killed.
Basically an equivalent scenario to the SS Jewish massacres in Eastern Europe in 1941.
The total WW2 Jewish dead involved in Europe was due to about 1,000 Srebrenicas for scale.
The Dutch still feel pretty bad about that whole affair to this day.
The Dutch service-members I served with referred to Srebenica as "our Dutch Vietnam". Even though they were children when that whole thing happened in (I think?) the 90s. So obviously it is singed in their collective memory.
