Indiana can vote Democrat if there is a high turnout of Democrats, and the Democratic candidate is appealing to college students. Also, if the candidate is popular in Indiana (Evan Bayh). Otherwise, it is a lost cause. Looking at the county map, it is very much like the states surrounding it, except it doesn't have a big liberal city, like how Illinois has Chicago. Because if you took Chicago out of Illinois, Illinois would be a heavy battleground state. Indianapolis is fairly moderate. I believe Marion county voted Bush in 2000, but Kerry and Obama in 2004 and 2008. It also has a Republican mayor...
