Dewey would have been a competent and tough President in his first term, and in the eyes of the American public would have been deserving of re-election. 

Stevenson would have met the same fate in 1952 against Dewey as he met against Eisenhower, a big defeat.

There wouldn't have been much difference between this and the actual Truman presidency; Dewey was pretty damn liberal (his foreign policy may have actually been weaker). I must say, though, that he doesn't look very "presidential":



You're right.  That picture doesn't look very "presidential."  He looks kind of like Howdy Doody here.  I hope he didn't use this picture in the 1948 campaign.  If he did, no wonder he lost.
