Yes, it goes in the FP slot. Normally thoguh we give the National Security Committee two or three days to look over it first. Though they can probably proceed simultaneously if the administration wants to hurry this.

You know my feelings on committees, Yankee. Tongue While there's no rush, I'm more interested in hearing what all ten Senators think of this.

And you very painfully know mine, Mr. Former Chairman. Tongue

I don't think anybody here realizes the implications of recognizing 'Taiwan'. To begin with, recognizing it as 'Taiwan' would mean recognizing Taiwanese independence/sovereignty which is not something that the current KMT government is even remotely interested in pursuing (quite the contrary) and which is something that no other state has done. Recognizing 'Taiwan' as a sovereign state would also cause a sh**tstorm of phenomenal proportions with the PRC, which is not something which is particularly advisable. If you want to reinclude 'Taiwan' at the UN, the way to do it is to switch recognition from the PRC to the Republic of China, but nobody besides random sh**tty countries and tiny islands in the Pacific actually continue to recognize the ROC over the PRC. I strongly urge the Senate to consider the issue seriously (and know all the facts and dimensions involved) before doing another stupid, boneheaded thing.

I hope Yankee won't bitch at me and throw a 10 page paper at me for interrupting his life's calling and very serious business.

You are mistaken, I am going to bitch you out for thinking that I oppose outside input. If anyone wants to shut people out of the Senate, it is most certainly not me. I have always welcomed and supported outside input in debates and even encouraged TNF to bring some people in from the outisde to provide some input on his bills as recently as two days ago.

Senator, as the sponsor of the bill you have to judge amendments as friendly or hostile. I friendly they can be approved if no one objects after a 24 hour period has been set. If hostile, a vote is thus required.

AYE

We can go after tax cheaters in a way that doesn't risk jobs and such is the better course with the economic situation we have. We don't know what the economy will do until we get another round of reports. We shouldn't treat the the stimulus as some kind of jobs charge account when it might even not have been enough as it is.

If not, I think it has two days left (whatever is five days total, I hate the ends of 31 day months).

I am going to offer this to get it considered, but I am by no means on board with the approach.

I'd recommend putting the amendment to a vote soon if feedback isn't given soon.

Aye guess

I am still rather dubious about the approach being utilized here, in general. I think that it might make things more difficult in terms of the negotiations if any are or expected to occuring on the issue of middle east peace. No doubt Israel has to get serious in terms of the settlements in order for this to occur, but I worry that if we embolden the hard liners we might get the opposite as a result.

The situation definately demands a measured and responsible approach that isn't grounded in an ideology one way or the other. We shouldn't not cater to or absolve the Israelis for the actions they have taken, just as we shouldn't place all the blame on them or declare them as as evil aggressors. I never realized just how close things came to going right in the mid 2000s prior to the election of Hamas and unfortunately since then, it things just seem to be more and more pushed away from where they were when that opportunity was present.

Who is going to offer these amendments that have been posted? I can take some, but it would be more advantageous to spread them around and/or have the sponsor of the FPR take them to save a step. Of course that would also depend on those particular ones having his support or it is a moot point.

Indeed, as I said, if we take too hard a line we risk emboldening the hard liners and pushing us even further away from a possible settlement.

Private efforts have been made to encourage the Israeli government to move in the appropriate regard, although I suppose one could consider the potential military sanctions the first "hard" move the administration is making in regards to relations with the nation.

Here are some amendments which were discussed earlier.

Lebanon: Full No military and no economic restrictions.

Bahrain: Full military and no partial economic restrictions.  The Atlasian Government strongly condemns the measures taken against protesters in Bahrain.

Kuwait: Full No military restrictions and partial economic restrictions. We are concerned by a lack of regard for human rights and democracy.

I would be willing to offer these as amendments.

I will take the last three unless you prefer to take all of them. That will enable us to split them up in to more manageable chunks of four and then my three along with Polnuts as a second batch.

Senators have 24 hours to object to them, running simultaneously.

We'll do my three and Polnut's tomorrow if no one objects.

Those four amendments have been passed. Once the next batch is finished, we should get an updated text posted.

I mentioned all eight in my PM and thus I am going to assume "all" really means "all" in this case.

Senators have 24 hours to object to the previous four amendments.

56:56 - Hostile, not willing to ease off of full military restrictions.

56:57 - Friendly

56:58 - Hostile, why do we not want relations with this Island nations?

56:59 - Friendly

This is why presumptiousness to save time doesn't always work and you have to go  by the book.

But hey, at least we don't have a problem here thanks to the timing.

I will start a vote on 56 and 58 in about 30 minutes. About twenty minutes left to object to the others.
