January 6
vs
open borders, no cash bail, and George Soros DAs etc

Yes — Democrats really have a lane in the “tough on crime” argument

Are January 6 criminals not real criminals? That argument is asinine. Trump is literally saying "let's let a thousand criminals out on the street on day 1" - if you honestly believe that is comparable to any of what you mentioned then you're completely dense

Of course they're real criminals, but the actions of the January 6th rioters don't affect people's day to day lives in the way that the threat of murders and carjackings do.

It’s not the President’s job to enforce state and local laws. Take it up with the mayors and Governors.

It is the President’s job to leave office if he loses re-election, as opposed to lying about the results, inciting his supporters against Congress, and otherwise overstating his welcome through chaos and chicanery. I agree that many/most of the January 6th rioters aren’t dangerous criminals, and it’s not right that so far they’ve faced criminal consequences while the leader of the cult is a free man who has a good shot of becoming President again.

I will say, this is by far the most coherent defense of the topic title. The issue is that some of this is up to Biden (e.g. borders) and for the parts that aren't, he is seen as the leader of the Democratic Party anyway. Trying to argue that Dems are the tough-on-crime party isn't going to be viable until leading Democrats actually speak up on the issue of crime effectively being legalized in cities like San Francisco, because it looks like a political calculus instead of a genuine commitment to building a functioning society.
