It is sad that we will probably see Turkey finish its slide into authoritarianism today.  I guess that it is a fitting conclusion to a country and society that nurtures majoritarianism.  We must allow liberal values to persist throughout the west, or else we will see many more Turkeys.

I predict Evet wins 56-44.

Yup.  Whenever we encounter varying degrees of madness over the next 4-8 years, I will just remind myself that at least we aren't Turkey.

I don't support the result of the referendum at all, but I think it would be just desserts if, sometime down the line, a liberal wins and uses his or her autocratic powers to make Turkey secular and democratic again.
