Newsweek just released an article titled FDR, REAGAN AND OBAMA WON RE-ELECTION WITH MORE THAN 7% UNEMPLOYMENT. AMID CORONAVIRUS, COULD TRUMP?

but what they forgot to point out is that every one of those presidents entered office when things were already going bad but by time the election came around the economy improved enough for all 3 of them to be reelected

Trump on the other hand entered office when things were going good but now the economy has fallen off a cliff and many have now died because of his lackluster response to the virus at the start

So good luck trying to sell a record like that to voters in November because at the rate things are currently going Trump is going to need all the luck he can get lol

While its true that many Americans may permanently lose their jobs because of the recession that this virus has caused I would not say that Their lives are effectively over because of that

If the greatest generation can survive the great depression and WW2
than I think this generation will overcome this in the end

A short article that makes the case that easing restrictions won't automatically restart the economy, because people won't start going out again until they feel safe in doing so:

Quote
...the essential variable in “flattening the curve” isn’t central planning but behavior change. Many businesses closed down well before they were ordered to. Millions of people practiced social distancing and refused to get on planes not because they were commanded to, but because they were convinced this was a wise course of action for themselves and their loved ones.
...
Information doesn’t just come from governments. The death tolls in Italy and New York probably did more to change behavior on the ground than all of Trump’s press conferences or Dr. Anthony Fauci’s TV appearances.

And this raises another complication for those who think the government can just “re-open” the economy with the flick of a switch. Trump and all of the governors could lift the stay-at-home orders and federal advisories tomorrow. That wouldn’t necessarily fill the restaurants, airplanes or stadiums. People would still need to be convinced it’s safe. Such persuasion comes via clear, believable information, not orders from on high.

Certainly it will be a gradual transition, but for me personally and I think many people, I will be right back out there the second I can because staying at home sucks for so many reasons. I will gladly take a slight risk to my health to go enjoy my life with friends/coworkers/etc.

You are not just slightly risking your health
you are also potentially risking the lives of people around you

you may end being ok after getting the virus but for other who came in contact with you
they may not be so lucky.......

For the fourteen thousandth f__king time...

You are putting the health (and lives) OF OTHERS at risk, not just your own. You are potentially commiting manslaughter.

Repeat after me folks, 0.5 percent death rate.

You can repeat that all you want but the reality is it took the 2009 swine flu A whole year to kill 12,469 people in the US

It only took a few months for Coronavirus to kill 18,248

This virus is no joke and we should not be rushing to quickly reopen everything until we are 100 percent sure that will it not cause more deaths.

We will not be able to keep the economy shut down and everyone unemployed and locked in their homes until every human being on this planet is vaccinated. That is not realistic and it actually causes the cure to be worse than the disease.

I agree its not realistic nor is that what Im advocating at all
Im not saying lets just keep everybody locked in their homes until every human being on this planet is vaccinated

that sounds silly and ridiculous

All Im saying is that I rather be safe than sorry when it comes to this virus

Now if things have truly turned a corner and than sure reopen everything
but if that is not the case than we should wait before opening anything because no amount of money is worth human lives

While many including myself are skeptical about trying to quickly reopen everything so soon
Ultimately it is Trumps call. He will soon have a big decision to make and for better or worse we will all have to live with it

If he is right He can once again run around saying he was correct while the so called experts were 100 percent wrong

But if he is wrong on this he and his supporters will now have to live with both the moral and political consequences of that fateful decision.

Honesty this press briefing is just sad and not simply because of trump

Its sad because of how much the media takes the bait from trump and gets into these pointless fights at a time when the american people really don't need it. Trump basically turned the press briefing into everything his critics claimed it was in the first place. A Media bashing campaign rally that even starts with a campaign ad. Trump knows full well that the media will go crazy over this and now he is going to play the victim

He and the GOP will fundraise off of this and once again the media completely falls for it

What both trump and even the media fail to understand it that this is so much bigger than them and their egos. People are dying and increasingly worried about the economy yet these fools are to busy fighting each other to notice.

So this is my message to the media
Look we get it Trumps is a liar who will say anything to avoid blame but At some point they cant just keep obsessing and fighting over something everybody already knows. Rather than giving him the fight you know he wants to have why not just focus on the things that actually matter

The virus has killed thousands and the damage it has done to our economy will effect many more
that Matters way more to many Americans than some dumb fact checking fight with trump

It’s reactions like this as to why there are downplayers of climate change. Prediction after prediction wrong. It’s hard to make sensible policy decisions when models continue to be wrong.

you don't need a model or a scientist to know that something is seriously off about out current Climate. Being from Louisiana I have actually seen the impact of climate change first hand

We have been losing more and more of our coastlines at a rapid rate thanks to sea level rise and people are being forced to either relocate or voluntary move further away from the coastline

Every hour we shed another football field's worth of land and things are only getting worse.
for Many of you living in the upper northern states climate change may only be this scary thing that a model or scientist says will not really effect you for another 30 or 40 years

but for us climate change is not just some scary future that scientist our making projections about
its our present and its very much having a Negative impact on our state Right at this very moment..

Very powerful Biden ad hitting Trump's response to the virus:

Wow

That ad was brutal and I agree Is by far the best ad of the Biden campaign so far
If this is what trump is going to be facing in November....he is in Big trouble
