Good, the prosecutors failed to prove guilt

If anything its the GOP who have failed to convince the american people that trump is innocent

The Dems have already convicted Trump in the court of of public opinion

Most Americans believe Trump is 100 percent guilty of the these crimes and more than half want him thrown off of office. In one of the latest polls 58% say they believed Trump abused the power of the presidency to obtain an improper personal political benefit and 57% say it is true that he obstructed the House of Representatives in its impeachment inquiry.

Bill Clinton never saw poll numbers like that when they were impeaching him and Nixon numbers never got that bad until the very end.  Like is or not Most Americans think trump abused his power and that Damming fact it what is putting pressure on Republicans in swing states.

think about it Mitch McConnell had to change the impeachment rules at the last minute simply because he could not get swing state Republicans to go along with him.

that alone proves that GOP have already lost the augment because had The Dems really failed to prove  Trumps guilt  Mitch McConnell would have never changed the original impeachment rules nor would he ever been pressured to do so in the first place.

Think it’s pretty clear there will be a couple Dem Senators will vote to acquit. This is all such a disaster for them.

At this point I don't see that happening at all

At the start of all of this I use to think they could get manchin but now I don't see even him voting with them. it will be years before he has to faces voters again so I don't see him under any real pressure to vote to acquit trump. some on here have said Kyrsten Sinema could be the one but if joe manchin votes to impeach I don't see Sinema  being the lone dem who votes no.

you would think GOP would been getting Doug Jones support since he is a red state Dem but So for  Doug jones seem to be 100 percent behind his party and supports their call for more witness.

To be blunt the GOP has failed to convince the american people of trump's innocents and because of that there is very little reason for a dem senator to crossover and vote with the GOP. plus many of the Dems that would voted for this have either already been defeated in 2018 or will not face voters again for a while( doug jones is an exception but as I pointed out the GOP has already failed to win him over so far.

Had GOP put up a better defense of Trump they could have had a lot of Dems under to pressure to let trump off the hook but as it stands the Dems has won in the court of public opinion and this vote will now be a lot tougher on swing state republicans than it will be for matchin or Jones.

maybe they can get 1 but it would not shock me at all if the got 0 with at least 1 republican voting with them

Impeachment very popular in a new Fox News poll

The poll also says that more independent voters now say Trump should be removed by a 19-point margin (53-34 percent).

These are the type of the numbers that should scare the hell out of swing state republicans. as I said before the Dems have successfully convicted trump in the court of public opinion

Now even if the GOP votes not to remove trump most Americans will now see them as letting a guilty man off the hook and If numbers are this bad nationally in a fox new poll

I can only imagine how those numbers look in Blue state like Maine. Im now convinced that if Collins votes no on this she might as well announce her retirement from congress right after because there is no way she is getting reelected if most independent voters believe that she let  trump get away with crimes

How many times have you been duped by NYT Anonymous sources before? You just don’t learn.

Romney is also essentially saying he plans to vote on witnesses without saying whether in support of calling them or not.

Executive privilege is a fact as well.

Nice timing, a bit cute by half - Kavanaugh tactics are so obvious. Nothing has changed.

You can bury your head in the sand all you want but no amount of spinning will change the fact that this a disaster for both trump and the GOP. The reality is the Jon Bolton info is damming and He pretty much completely destroyed Trump lawyers entire defense they gave on Saturday.

The GOP are  now canceling press conference and both Romney and Collin are making it clear that  they now more than ever really want to hear from Bolton.  Trump also stabbed many of his defenders in the back by not telling them that he had this info about Bolton since Dec 30 and mitch mcconnell is most likely very furious that He kept this from him in the first place

Just saw some of what ken starr had to say and Wow this guy is a joke lol

you mean to tell me that out of all the people the president the united states could have gotten to defend him this is the guy he picked. This fool tried to have bill Clinton thrown out of office yet he had the nerve to blame everybody else for "The age of impeachment"

What a clown

The problem with the "Partisan impeachment" argument is that even back in 1999, I don't think anyone would've predicted that it would be so partisan and people wouldn't act in good faith. You legitimately have almost all Republicans willing to be on Trump's side despite *everything*. That negates any argument about that, considering all the evidence in the world could be infront of them, Rs would vote to acquit, and that's... not Democrats fault. It's also not Democrats fault if they're the only ones willing to hold someone accountable.

Another problem with the  "Partisan impeachment" argument is that most Americans Simpy are not buying it. they really do believe that Trump abused his power  and they think he should be removed from office. The fact is the vast majority of them are supporting Impeachment at a level we have never seen before for any president. In the past impeachment was bipartisan but that was mainly because Impeachment was very unpopular among both democrats and republicans

Bush Obama Clinton

even if people disliked those president  poll after poll showed that the Majority never supported removing any of them from office.  even in the case of Nixon  most Americans simply did not support the impeachment inquiry against  him  nor did they support removing him from office until they very end

Trump changed everything mainly because most people actually believe that he his guilty of everything the Dems are accusing him of.  for first time in american history both Democrats and independents voters support removing a sitting president form office

the only real holdouts are the GOP and that is the main reason why  their "Partisan impeachment" argument is failing flat

What is Manchin's game here? He's not up again until 2024.

To me it just looks like a clever way to make his future vote for impeachment look better

He can claim that he gave trump a fair shot and he even supported having Hunter testify but ultimately the evidences convinced him that he will have to vote to impeach

this is actually good news for Joe Biden

not even joe Manchin would back or support having him be called to testify. if you cant get Manchin I doubt They would be able to get other swing state dems to support it

Thank goodness impeachment is gonna not extend another week with witnesses. Sinema, Jones and Manchin are gonna join 53 Rs to acquit the Prez

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

I want whatever this guy is smoking lol

Doung Jones has been 100 percent behind his party when it comes to impeachment witness. at no point has the GOP came close to convincing him to vote against having witnesses at a trial

even Manschin has said he want to here from Jon Bolton and so does Sinema

sure they may all vote to acquit but I don't not think a single 1 of them will vote to stop Jon Bolton from testifying at the trial

This comment just sums up everything wrong with today's politics

Everyone is so obsessed with sticking it to other side that nobody realizes just how damaging this is to the untied states going forward. We are effectively saying that No future president can held accountable for trying to cheat in order to get reelected. for the first time ever we saying that it is OK for China to help take out the presidents political opponents. plus even if people try to hold them accountable It wont matter since the presidents party will set up a rigged trial without any wittiness's  or documents and it brings the presidency 1 step closer to being more like a dictatorship. we can only wonder if Nixon would have even resigned had he been in office today

No other impeachment trial in history has ever did anything like this.

even when Bill Clinton was being impeached Nobody in their right mind thought it would be a good idea to have a trail without witnesses.  Clinton had An approval rating in the 60s and most Americans did not even support the GOP impeachment effort against him yet despite all of that there was still a trial with both witness and documents because back than everyone understood that even when the outcome was clear that still had a responsibility to show the american people that this was a fair trail that ended without any controversy over the final verdict.

the GOP deciding to block witnesses from testifying in trump trial has put a black stain on than entire process. trump acquittal will now be seen as being illegitimate nor will it ever be accepted by the majority of the american people. even people who supported his acquittal overwhelmingly thought that the trial should have had witnesses like ever other impeachment trial before it.

The GOP has effectively made it impossible to hold future presidents accountable for any wrong doing and the consequences of that will effect us long after trump is gone

Fox News reporting cheers in GOP Senate lunch.

All over.

I said it before and I will sat it again

its one thing to vote not to remove trump from office since the american people are split on that

but voting to stop witnesses from testifying is overwhelmingly unpopular with the american people and any swing state republican who votes for it is in big trouble come November. its foolish for them to be jumping for joy over a vote like this. I can see the kind of attack ads against Cory Gardner will be getting from a mile away in Colorado  lol

well Murkowski at least got one thing right thing

“As an institution, the Congress has failed.”

It was her duty to at least attempt to show that american people that this was a fair trial that had both witnesses and documents. Partisanship is no excuse for her Failing to do her job

she did not have to vote remove trump from office but it was definitely her responsibility to make sure that she and american people heard all of the facts and seen all of the evidenced before coming to that decision

the institution may have failed but make no Mistake her legacy will now forever be a part of the very failed institution that she is criticizing

Wow both Mitt Romney and Dough Jones made Susan Collins Lisa Murkowsk and Lamar Alexander look a lot worse

They came to the same conclusion that Romney did but were to cowardly to do anything about it. I think history will judge every last one of them harshly for that.

This puts Collins in a tougher spot since see will no longer be able to claim that this was simply a partition impeachment. The former GOP nominee of her party believes trump should be removed for what he did and that is now going to be a big talking point ever time her vote against impeachment comes up

the attack ads Susan Collins will now be facing over her vote for impeachment will be brutal

Mitt Romney vote also gives cover to Joe manchin and Kyrsten Sinema

If Romney is voting yes I find it hard to believe they will both end up voting no. honesty before the Romney news I thought manchin was at least leaning in the direction to Acquit trump but Now Im not so sure.

Mitt Romney should be RE-CALLED from the Senate immediately.

Mitt Romney should be mobbed Non-Stop over Social Media for the next few Days.

This is the mindset that makes me happy that I gave up on political parties a long time ago and became a register independent voter. back than I was also a loyal party guy

At that time Im 100 percent convinced that I would have went after anyone in my party who dared say they supported impeaching the president. over the years I came to realize just how foolish I was for ever putting that much trust and faith in these silly political parties in the first place

It was a poisonous mindset and I happy no longer see things that way

The idea that someone has to be destroyed simply for disagreeing with you sums up everything that is going wrong with our politics. last nigh state out the union makes it very clear that Political parties and Tribalism is tearing this county apart

George Washington was correct when he warned against the creation political parties. All they do is turn many people against each other and eventually we reach a point where People are more loyal to their party than are to their country. people are now saying that they will be 100 percent loyal to president of their party even if he has the done wrong or have committed A crime because by the end of the day their Party has brainwashed  them into thinking that the other side is Worse than Devil.
