Update XX: A Darn Good Judge of My Financial Situation

Progress Report:  Today's been a good day.  I had a bowl of cereal again for breakfast, 4 glasses of water, and will scramble some eggs for supper.  I also walked for 20 minutes.

Here's an idea: why doesn't Bushie volunteer at a Christian non-profit: it'll get him out of his apartment and hopefully up and moving, it'll be something he can put on his resume between jobs, and if he might even learn something. For example, if he volunteers at a soup kitchen, he might learn some basic cooking; if he volunteers to help build houses, he might learn how to use tools and do basic home repair, etc. It might also help him make connections with like-minded people that he might be able to leverage into a job later on.

This is a good idea.  Don't you think this is a very good use of your free time, Bushie?  If you want to, as you say, do "God's work on Earth", would this not be a decent idea?

I think that this is a good idea, Jeff. I enjoy doing work like this, and it is spiritually rewarding.

I have no idea what this means, but listen to your peers in religion, Jeff.  Who knows?  You might get a position with a non-profit... and at the very least make connections with people.

That sounds like a book I would enjoy reading.  I agree with the title and subtitle.  I may have to see if I can find it at the local Target here.

I know I said I would turn down the sales job from this morning, but I did not.  Here's why.  There is no end in sight to the CAD job search.  I need income.  I need a filler job until I find a CAD job.  What this is all about is selling credit card payment machines to mainly small and medium-size businesses here in the Tulsa metro.  It has a base salary of $30,000 a year plus commission with benefits.  I work 0815-1700 Monday through Friday.  I don't really want sales, but I need some money coming in to pay the bills.  I did not want to go into the second half of February or early March without a job.  I want to reiterate, I have no intention at making this job permanent unless I do really well, but it is at the very least money in the bank until I land a more permanent CAD job.  It would also get me out of the house and keep cabin fever from setting in.  The best part is the job is only a 2.5 mile drive from my house.  If push come to shove, I could walk there.  I may be a hot mess when I get there, but I could walk there if my car were to break down or whatever.  I start Thursday morning at 0900 and then starting Friday morning I go in at 0815.

I'm sure I'll get yelled at for this, but I did want to let you all know.

I agree with getting yourself an income until something better comes along, but why something you hate?  I don't get it.  Why not just go be an Uber driver or a pizza guy?  Is it really that important to put on a shirt and tie for you that you'll get into sales? 

Keep the job search going, Bushie, because this isn't lasting long.  You've been down this road and Einstein's head is about to explode.

Jeff, if you crash and burn at this job, you're really getting to the point where you're unemployable. I want you to think about that. Your job history is littered with getting fired, getting laid off and quitting after short periods of time. If you perform poorly at this place and get escorted out, the people reviewing your application for the next job are going to be asking what your deal is. They're going to conclude that you're either incompetent at everything, based on getting terminated from positions in multiple industries and functional areas, or they're going to conclude that you're in your 30s and still haven't figured out what you want to do. Neither of those conclusions are good.

If you're not going to "stick with what you know best" (CADD), then your filler job needs to be something that literally anyone can do. Something centered on driving a car or simply sitting for extended periods of time and answering very basic questions (i.e. the person who sits at the front desk at a museum and tells the two people who ask in a given day where the bathroom is and gives them a map if they ask for one).

He won't answer me about why his job always needs to be something he needs to put a shirt and tie on for.  The discussion is not worth having because he refuses to even address this issue.  I mean, he has Tourette's so he goes into SALES?  i'm not insulting you, Jeff it's just the reality of the situation.

I don't see how someone could see themselves above the service industry and yet sign on to do sales in the year 2015. The salesman is a scumbag job.

Do I have to post the Leave It To Beaver pic again?  It's not about what actually is and is not scummy or low class.  Bushie wants to dress up and go to the office like the black-and-white 1955 idealistic Ameriscape that he wants his life to be... practicality and pragmatism be damned.

2. Don't tell Bushie that he's completely hopeless, that's not going to help him. By all means criticize him and tell him how he can improve, but telling them that he's going to fail no matter what isn't helpful.

Bushie isn't making a dime at no sales job. Never has, never will.

Bushie, Wulfy doesn't know your history with sales and call centers.  There are good reasons we recommended Uber and pizza driving as stopgap jobs.

Yeah, but the problem is that Bushie can't put on his good work clothes and pretend to be a high-achieving white collar middle class upstanding American when he delivers gas. That's clearly all that matters to him, as the scam recruiter very quickly intuited by spinning this "management track" yarn.

I'm glad someone else recognizes this.
