Bernie and Warren both leading Buttigieg in first votes. But Buttigieg leads overall. Great work, caucuses.

That's how it's supposed to work.  It's like a run-off.

I don't believe it's rigged. It's just a delay. Calm down. I'm a Bernie supporter, and i'm sure this is handled fairly. But what we see is that a caucus is something of the past, and that IA should move towards a primary. That's a fair conclusion to draw.

The problems we are seeing aren't because caucuses are outdated, but because someone tried to update them.  They should have left well enough alone. The Iowa caucuses went okay in the past.

Pretty sure that Hillary Clinton developed this reporting app and sold it to the IA Dems.

I heard it was Robby Mook.

I gather from the responses to this it was a claim someone was releasing part of the vote totals early?

It's absolutely staggering that after all of this nonsense, the Iowa Democrats released fraudulent results.

Where is Iowa's own Baghdad Bob from yesterday's press conference, with his promises of data security and quality assurance? That jackass belongs back out in front of the media, and the campaigns. He needs to answer for this.

I'm not making any assumptions about how it happened, or why it disadvantaged Sanders, because it doesn't matter. They have no credibility under any conceivable set of circumstances or motivations.

Is this at all unusual?   Seems like this is the same as what happens in some county in almost every election.   In the 2016 Virginia GOP primary, a Kasich precinct in Norfolk was for a while reported as having been won by Santorum.

The fact that 2012 (R), 2016 (D), and 2020 (D) were all basically ties is just another reason to throw the Iowa caucuses in the dustbin of history.

This place doesn't decide a damn thing.  It just makes the election season start with a big confusing mess.

The Iowa caucus isn't supposed to decide anything conclusively.  What it does is readjust the perception of what's possible.  It showed that Obama could be a real challenge to Clinton and win over large numbers of heartland whites.  Santorum was polling in low single digits nationally before Iowa, and then became a major contender and finally Romney's main competition after additional wins in the Midwest.  Both Sanders and Buttigieg are benefiting from their performance and are seen as potential nominees much more than before.

Was it rigged? No.

However, I seriously doubt releasing the 62% of results that were favorable towards Pete to make him appear the winner was accidental, especially considering the F-up with the delegates going to Patrick and Steyer yesterday.

What are you talking about?
If they wanted to make sure Pete looked like the clear winner, they wouldn't have had Bernie with a solid lead in the first round votes and a dead heat in the final round.  The 62% they released was about as accurate as one could reasonably expect from any close election where 62% precincts have reported.

"Final" popular vote totals:

FIRST ROUND:
Sanders 24.91% (+3.49)
Buttigieg 21.42%
Warren 18.56%
Biden 15.05%
Klobuchar 12.82%
Yang 5.03%

FINAL ROUND:
Sanders 26.81% (+1.53)
Buttigieg 25.28%
Warren 20.34%
Biden 13.86%
Klobuchar 12.39%

I think you must have omitted some small candidates. Those percentages are slightly inflated.

These are from the CNN results. If you're comparing to Dave's, then I'm not sure who else he's including (my guess is random nonsensical ballots for non-candidates, since Atlas usually does include all ballots for contests - joke candidates or otherwise).

NYT, DMR and AP.

Is there a link to the AP results?   I couldn't find one.

Wasn't it against the rules to switch away from a candidate who had viability?
