It's a very nice term for my furry friends, and they are not racist.  They just like me best because I don't try to chase them away and I leave lots of nice stuff for them in the bin - it's nothing to do with my race.

Kidding aside Fairfax is handling this horribly, though I'm skeptical of these allegations so far.

Right - I really don't know what to make of these accusations, but Fairfax's response is giving Northam a very good reason to not resign.

He's suggesting that because she made this very short video where she talked about her experience of incest as a child, that she never suffered assault at the hands of anyone else because she didn't mention it here.   Which is nonsense.

The "if true" caveat only applies to Fairfax, but due to his skin color the #metoo neolibs have already convicted him.

You don't have to have positive feelings about #MeToo to understand how serious and likely accurate this story is given the motivations of the involved parties, the timeline, the amount of graphic detail and especially every single aspect of the Fairfax response. He's done everything short of saying "I raped her."

I'm not sure his response shows that.  One day he's been put forward as the great hope for Virginia's immediate future by the entire national Democratic Party, the next he's probably lost his chance of ever furthering his political ambitions. Any narcissist might react this way even if they weren't guilty.

This was a thing in the culture at that time, even tv shows had plots about slave auction fundraisers and who gets to buy whom.  Obviously insensitive in hindsight to the hurt caused by slavery in our nation's history, but the people participating in these things just didn't think of it in those terms or as anything to do with blacks or racial issues.

I don't think that's why people wanted him to replace Northam, I think it was more because he was scandal-free (at the time) and people wanted Northam gone.

I know but it was why Democrats near and far were going on about him representing some kind of hopeful future for the state.
