Saw the news in El Pais and was confused as f**k. Wtf?? Why now? I’m not super well versed in Spanish politics but is there a reason for this…

Test link without Vanguardia' paywall: https://cluster17.com/espagne/
I got "Socialdemocrat"

Quote from: Cluster17
Tu resultado :

PP?

While I of course generally am a unionist on the Catalan issue for geopolitical reasons, morally I do think Catalonia has a right to independence if VOX wins. These aren’t good people, they want a genocide of the Catalan people in the same vein as the CCP and the Uyghurs.
I will want Spain to keep the Catalan movements down for practical purposes, but may not be able to help but smile everytime Catalans fight back against their soon to be oppressors.

Of course if PP/VOX gets anywhere close to betraying us on the Russia or China issues, I will fully support Catalan independence movements happily.

Either way I am still praying for a miracle.

Honestly, how deranged and out of touch with reality do you have to be to say this baseless bullsh**t.
Coming from you, that makes me feel more firm in my views.

I have always wondered why the Spanish right wing is so determined to keep Catalonia. It is a gangrenous appendage that only gets in the way and causes putrefaction in the body. What I have always supported is an agreed independence, with UN supervisors. Of course, with the corresponding debt and with vetoes to both NATO and the EU.

It is a fact that, without Catalonia, the right wing would ensure its perpetual victory. The Psoe as a party has disappeared from the rest of Spain, the same with Podemos. To want to keep Catalonia in these conditions is foolishness and masochistic fetishism. Of course the Psoe knows this perfectly well and that is why I believe they would never agree to a referendum.

To add onto the “BigSerg is a bumbling idiot” takes, removing Catalonia from Spain would obviously change the politics of the country itself to an extent that old coalitions may just completely fall apart. There are probably plenty who have formed entire political identities around a perceived attack on “Spanish culture” and opposition to secessionism, and removing a key thing fueling that anger could very well cause a massive shift in their voting patterns. For the record this also would mean that Catalonia would not be a uniformly left leaning country even if it votes close to it right now.

The only good thing about this election is that the right wing is coping so hard. Sadly they are almost certainly sett to gain power in a few years.
